Wonder if they ate them or threw them at each other? :hmm:

Storchpilot 26th Mar 2010 06:29

Guavas. Great trees for climbing in as kids, as even the thin branches wouldnīt snap. :ok: As kids we loved the fruit and could never get enough of them. Unfortunately they never really developed at the elevation of our station (about 6000ft). :{

Airstrips PNG

It seems that the southern hemisphere is getting ready to hibernate, as itīs been quiet here the last few days. So Iīll do something to change that.
Bulolo 1967. From a bit high altitude and poor quality. Please excuse. :O

Kaiapit - not a current airstrip during my time I'm afraid... :(

Chimbu chuckles 29th Mar 2010 01:54

Last one is Wau - ples bilong mi long 1989.:ok:

Captain Nomad 29th Mar 2010 01:59

Looks flat from that angle doesn't it?! :}

Captain Nomad 29th Mar 2010 02:46

Hey Chuckles, did you ever hike out to the Black Cat pass B-17 wreck site while you were in Wau? One of the most impressive, intact, laying where it finished, remaining WWII crash sites around the place these days. I have always wished I could have had the chance to visit the site at ground level.

Chimbu chuckles 29th Mar 2010 03:20

Hike out there?

FCK NO!!

I went in a Pacific Helicopters chopper - more than once:ok:

Captain Nomad 29th Mar 2010 04:23

Ha ha! Yes, where would we be without our 'wantok' pilot friends - even the rotary wing kind...! Glad you got to visit - would have been a great day out. :ok:

Had a friend who tried to hike from Wau to Salamaua once. Raskols put an end to that attempt, and he wasn't too keen on making a second attempt either. :(

Black Cat Pass

This the one you mean guys.:ok: I hiked out there as a kid on a school outing. Didnīt have any wantok friends with choppers. :{. We actually found one of the single-barrel machineguns and lugged the f......... thing back to school.
