Pinky the pilot 23rd Jun 2010 05:11

it took the Lae coppers a year to work out the rascal wasn't shot in self defence - given he was found face down on a broken TV.
Yes Chuck, but did`nt the coppers say that there were no suspicious circumstances afterwards? ie gris had been applied.:E

beaver_rotate 23rd Jun 2010 05:34

Pinky and Chimbu... I have heard that very same story but only first hand. You too?

Pinky the pilot 23rd Jun 2010 05:52

Really cannot remember where I heard it from beaver_rotate.Too long ago but may have heard it from RR or GH.

Madang - or because the message needs to be longer, Madang?

Storchpilot 23rd Jun 2010 11:09

Nope, sorry Chimbu Chuckles itīs not Madang := As far as I can remember, there are some leftovers of a WWII aircraft wreck on that island...or could it be the next island?

dennis douglas 23rd Jun 2010 13:51

Its great to see a history is still told

My Father, yes Dennis Douglas was a great man on whom I believe got avaition out of a dark & glamor hole with Douglas Airways just as Sir Dennis Buchanan did with Talair. Though Im sure many other people did their‎ dash in doing the same...It's a shame though that Aviation in PNG hasnt been the same since both companies faded away. Helping the locals on whome needed transport to take their cargo to the markets or to just get from place to place. Lets hope PNG gains a future in Aviation & memories stay with us forever to tell our young, of the good old days!

Yeah like THAT narrows it down:suspect::ok:

Animalclub 23rd Jun 2010 17:57

Storch could it be Gizo? Seeing all that expanse of water reminds me of the Solair pilot being transfered from the "mainland" to the Gizo strip to start work when the boat lost power. He was a little concerned for an hour or two!!

Storchpilot 23rd Jun 2010 21:47

:= Sorry Animalclub, not Gizo either. I know itīs a nasty picture, but if I show you the other ones too soon, itīll be too easy. :E

Pinky, I Was having a few ales with GH over the last week. Seems Shaggs has many similar types of stories to tell. :ok: Assuming its the same GH that is.

Good Ole Days....

DD,

I remember when you could get from Lae to Vanimo 6 days a week on Airlink in time for lunch. I also remember flying up to Goroka from Lae for a morning of meetings then back to Lae straight after a quick feed at the Bird.

Ahhh, the good old days....

the wizard of auz 23rd Jun 2010 22:29

A quick feed at the bird would result in a quite different outcome these days. Bring your own dunny roll too.

Waghi Warrior 23rd Jun 2010 22:44

Wizard, assuming you are talking about the GH who once flew F27s for PX ! If so he is a true gentleman, I hope you were drinking at the dero. Someone mentioned RR, that's not the engineer who once owned a C-185 is it ?

Alex, it wasn't that long ago when you could fly from LAE all the way through to VNO via all the major ports and return in the same day. PX tried a shorter version out of WWK and MAG a couple of years ago in the little Dash 8 100, then they decided to drop the whole lot when the loads picked up ?????

AxelPNG 23rd Jun 2010 23:21

The Bird

I eat at the Bird probably every 6 - 8 weeks, rarely had a bad meal....

It's either eat there, the chinese across the road or at the Pacific mess so you are not spoilt for choice.

the wizard of auz 23rd Jun 2010 23:38

For a real he man experience, try the Goroka lodge. :}
I had a super expensive meal at the Bird a little while ago and spent three days recovering from it.
Wahgi, I believe it could be the same Gentleman. Madang based now?. You are right, he is an absolute gentleman and a pleasure to talk too.
Yes, the Dero....then a few other places then back to the Dero....hic.... then somewhere....hic.

AxelPNG 24th Jun 2010 00:10

Wiz, I flew on the PX service ex-MDG to Vanimo last year on the Dash-8, the -100 there and the -300 back, both absolutely full. It meant a leisurely drive to Madang and back but that was half the fun.

Never ate at the lodge but I do remember the missus getting crook as a dog one night at the bird.
