GA Wages????
Hey guys
Just interested in where i might be able to find some info in regards to GA wages????
Particularly what float driver get paid in the whitsunday area. After a few years is it enough to make a career? Maybe blind, but unable to find out minimum wages for aviation...
Any info anyone could pass on would be most appreciated.

There are SOME that pay the award. We seem to keep pilots for a disproportionately longer period of time because of this. We only operate piston twins and singles but with conditions and pay above award anything other than a turbine is perceived as a sideways step.
It reflects good on the operator also because his training requirements are kept to a minimum and when people do move on it is usually in to a fairly tidy outfit rather than some other two bit operator. Morale is high as people can aim towards their financial goals despite being in G/A.
All it takes is a little foresight on the part of the operator, then again that seems to be a big call among many these days

GAM always paid the award (and then some) when I was there years back.
The boss was never shy in distributing the odd "Crownie" either if you pulled your weight.
There are good operators out there, by that I mean ones that do pay the award, operate GOOD machinery and treat you like a human, it just takes a bit of looking to find them.
Word of mouth will soon let you know who the good ones are.

Yep thats MTOW.
Lloyd.... The pay scales go up about once a year I think by the CPI I am not sure though. Last one was the 27 March 2002. So hopefully another one soon. Someone else should be able to clarify that.

Going off memory the weight is actually max certified weight. Not much difference usually, but the difference between an aircrafts max ramp weight and max takeoff weight could mean the difference between two pay brackets. Basically it's the highest weight you can find in the book.

Are you kidding - GA wages, didn't realize they had any.
Even the last reginal operator I was with made us sign a contract which was well below the so called GA award, and I spose if you question it, go and look for a new job. Lets face it, the only way of getting treated the right way is to work for a "real" major airline.

Agree with you "I'm gone".
Surprising how many are doing the right thing these days. The ones that aren't?... Dunno never sent them a resume'.
A lot of pilots treat these companies as the very very last option.

Unfortunately, to a much larger extent than people probably think or realise, one of the major causes for this, I think, is pilots themselves.
Foxtel is correct. If an employer does not pay you the correct wages, you either "like it or lump it". There is always plenty more drivers lining up behind waiting for that elusive job.
The industry is such that many people will do almost anything, even pay to fly someone else's aicraft, just to get some time up.
The operators that do pay the award are few and far between, with a line of pilots waiting out the door to fill someone's shoes.
If you're holding your breath waiting for a good paying GA job, you better exhale, or you will no doubt pass out!

There is another option for pilots who are being ripped off. I suggest that if you are not being paid the award (and asking for it would cost your job) then put up with it for now. When you resign for a better job, lodge a complaint with Department of Employment & Workplace Relations. They are required by law to follow it up, and it is my understanding that you will be paid out whatever you are owed under the award. Obviously this money comes out of the company who ripped you off. Hopefully this will become standard practise in GA. Good luck all.

THE AWARD ISN'T NECESSARILY ALWAYS THE BEST WAGE OPTION. SOME EMLOYERS PAY A RETAINER PLUS HOURLY FLYING RATE. AS LONG AS YOU FLY YOU'RE DOING FINE.
AS AN EXAMPLE, MY EX BOSS TOLD ME HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN THE AWARD BUT WOULD PAY AS ABOVE IN 1999 I EARNED ABOUT $4,000 MORE THAN THE AWARD. PLUS HOLIDAYS, ETC.
