Jepp's "turbulence priority" reference

Gday,

trying to track down a reference in Jepps (or AIP) regarding the higher priority gained by including the word "turbulence" when requesting an altitude change.

If anyone uses it - what sort of turbulence do you use it for - light chop or more serious stuff.

Also if any ATC guys are here, from experience have you found it to be used frequently and what sort of increase in priority does one get?

thanks

Seeing 48 odd people have looked at this thread, am i to take it that either a reference in jepps doesnt exist (ie no such turbulence priority) or nobody knows where to find it, or nobody has read jepps (or AIP) ?

I'm going to go out on a limb.

There is no such reference. Advising ATC of turbulence in an attempt to garner a new altitude carries no weight unless the bumps are so bad that you have to declare a PAN or MAYDAY.

Hey RAT, I know that a lot of blokes report requesting a new level 'due turbulence' to help ATC develop a picture of what the day is like for following traffic. I know I use it if it is the reason for the level change but have to say that I never expect a 'priority' because of it. Maybe ATC will hurry the request along a bit quicker because of that but that would be entirely dependant on the controller I guess.

And to actually answer your question, I haven't heard of such a reference in the Jepps either.

Agree with Keg, haven't heard of it... Priority for what exactly? Anyone else wishing to climb would be subjected to the same turbulence (unless it's wake). As 2daddies said though, you could get anything you wanted if the turbulence was severe enough to declare an emergency.
