Thumbs down Theory question related to employers.

Hi all,

Unfortunately i failed a CPL exam today, kinda disappointed because i really put in some work for it. It gets me thinking into future employers and if they look into your exam scores? Is that a factor they take into account? Surely they would but is it a factor that could make or break as an applicant?

Rex.

Was it by much, may I ask? As long as you put good effort into fixing it and do much better, I can’t see an issue.

It won't be a problem....especially a CPL subject. I've heard of rare occasions where airlines have asked for ATPL results but again it's rare and as long as you pass without a dozen attempts you will be fine.

Make sure you re-sit the exam while the info is fresh and continue on without worry. I have never met anyone that actually passed all their theory subjects through to and including ATPLs the first time around so keep up the work and don't dwell.

Thanks mate, not coming from an Aviation family its hard to know if its detrimental to my progression.. Nice to know you can make a mistake or two and not ruin your career because of it!

My last 2 cents worth...

In this industry if you learn from your mistakes excellent, even better learn from other peoples mistakes.

When you get that CPL and if you find yourself belting around the bush in a plane older than ya dad’s first car you will understand my words.

Now sickem Rex!!! (I maybe showing my age with this tag line)...

Three weeks ago, you were about to sit your PPL exams! Maybe you should slow down a bit!

It doesn't normally matter. I haven't heard of anyone asking for your pass marks but I do know of at least one airline that wants to know about your failures (which exams and how many times you failed.) So, it's ok to have a fail here and there, but don't make a habit of it.

Most airline gigs seem to as for the casa prerequisite report which lists all the attempts for better or worse.

when I went through a hr process the pilot looked at it, said I see they are all done and that was it

When the CASA 'wording' causes a baulk - it's possible you haven't done enough practice exams under the clock. I failed my 1st CPL Nav, many moons ago, and it was because I'd never done a single practice exam, and tried 5 CPL exams within 2 weeks. Far too much in the one bite! I was really prepared the next time. Good luck.

that post means you are learning. plenty of us have gone in to exams and answered the question we thought we read. CASA exams seem to be part english test as well as the subject they are meant to be examining. What you have discovered will serve you well in to the future

Welcome to the world of bowing to his royal goddess MrS, his might in Aviation language trickery has him in the Highest order of Aviation royalty.
In all seriousness, no one cares, especially in this market. I’ve failed 2 ATPLs and hasn’t even been mentioned, at all. If you kept failing one subject (other than flight planning) maybe a question would be asked, but if that was the excuse they had to not hire you, it would be just that, an excuse.

RexKramer,

I read your previous post in the flying training section and you passed all the PPL exams about 3 weeks ago (well done).
You studied all the PPL subjects by correspondence.

How i read it, you're also studying the CPL subjects by correspondence.

I strongly recommend not to study by correspondence but attend classroom courses for each CPL subject,

You need that classroom inter action and be able to ask the teacher and other students questions.
It's good to have text books as a back up and refer to areas for additional advice.

I passed all my exams up to ATPL by attending class and revising the work prior to sitting the exam.

Casa exams are based on the most correct answer by process of elimination.

Really recommend to enrol in classroom courses and sit for the test when you fully understand the subject workings.
