From: Back home again after another fantastic time in Japan; once again back to the 'real world' and continuing the seemingly never ending search for a bad bottle of Red.
Any chance anyone can post a photo of some or any of the above listed?
In my Dz and later Simbu days I met and drank with at the Club Dero, more that a few ANG pilots and not one of them did I ever take a disliking to!
What they may have thought of me is another question....
Each and every single one of them were someone that you'd be proud to have known. I just wish I'd taken more piccies, and paid more attention to recording names etc way back then.
Was great fun, back taim bilong then....

Angel Vale Capt Andrew Mc Dermott
Capt Andrew Mc Dermott (Eastern Airlines DHC-8-300) passed away recently in Subic Bay, Philippines.
His recall of events in PNG & in Australia will be long remembered.
May he RIP.

Capt Andrew was well liked.
He had a great personality. Was a Dad, Husband and friend to a great many.
I personally spent many hours with him in the final days.
God willing, he is at rest now.
Cheers Andrew from ya mates In Subic bay.

Macca!
Had the pleasure to do a few hours with Andrew just before my Dash command upgrade. Taught me a few things, tough man sometimes but he had a heart of gold. His technical knowledge and ability to fly the Dash 8 was second to none.
Also great to have 50 beers with.

.... and back to the man this thread is about....
Great memories of John and his quirky sense of humour.
The wind up toy and his attempts to enlighten a rugby boy on the game of aerial ping-ping ( afl ) came flooding back.
A gentleman joker, missed by many.

Hello everyone,I hope you don't mind me posting on this thread. My name is David and I am from PNG. I am not from the aviation industry, but I recently came across this discussion while researching a possible family connection to the late John Simon.Several contributors here appear to have known John personally or professionally during his time with Talair and Air Niugini. If anyone would be willing to share memories, photographs, or information about him, I would be very grateful.I understand this is a personal matter, so please feel free to contact me privately if preferred. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to preserving these memories and stories from PNG aviation history.Kind regards,David (Username: Chokal)
