Have an RA-Aus Pilot Certificate and moving to Sydney; Looking for somewhere to hire

As the title says, I'm about to move interstate. I've got my Pilot Certificate and will have my PAX endorsement by the time I move but all of my training so far has been in a Sling2.

I cannot find a single place in NSW that hires the Sling! Since I'll be upgrading to RPL later this year, I'd rather not have to spend the money learning a new aircraft but if that's what I absolutely have to do, so be it.

I can't even find an RA-Aus flight school remotely close to Sydney - suggestions are very welcome!

I don't know about specific aircraft and cannot comment on the actual schools or experience but regarding places close to Sydney, I think Gostner Aviation at Camden does RA-Aus training, there may be others at Camden too. (I used to know Gostner Aviation when it was Joe Gostner was running it many, many years ago but do not know about what it is like now - Camden is a nice place to fly, it has landing fees though now).

A little bit further out from Camden and The Oaks would be a hot bed of RA-Aus I think.

Looking at https://www.raa.asn.au/fly-with-us/f...hools/nsw-act/ there is also one at Bankstown (Soar Aviation) that I know nothing about. Again there may be more people doing RA-Aus stuff at Bankstown. Bankstown is a large aerodrome.

Also try Warnervale and Wollongong but that would depend on where in Sydney you are (Wollongong could work if you are around Sutherland/Shire, Warnervale if on upper North Shore maybe)?

Jaspers Brush, or the South Coast recreational flying club has Sling aircraft, 2 hour drive from Syd they sometimes operate out of Wollongong as well. . Soar at YSBK has Foxbats only, Gostners at YSCN has Jabirus.

Hey Ashton. The RAAus web site has all the schools listed for your convenience, as jonkster notes.
As you are an RAAus pilot, this site is designed to be your information resource.....so feel free to use it! The Ops and Tech Manuals can be downloaded from the site, should you need to look something up.

As to the Sling. It is probably a fine machine but in terms of numbers in the fleet, an outsider.

The industry work horse is Jabiru, and for good reason. Beyond that, Tecnam and Foxbat are also favoured by some school operators.

For what it's worth, I think you would benefit from gaining experience on a wide range of types.

If you do happen to end up flying a Jab, you can download a free Pilots Handbook for any current model at Manuals - Jabiru Aircraft & Engines Australia

Cheers

Thanks for the info. I just had a look at their website and it doesn't look like they have Slings either

In any case, training hours with them are incredibly cheap which is nice. I'll get in touch with them tomorrow for more info since their site has been hacked.

Wow, I have no idea how I didn't know this already, I'll take a closer look thanks!

After looking around I think I'm just going to pull the pin on doing my PAX in an LSA anyway and just go straight for my RPL conversion in a Warrior.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the link and info Jonkster. I'll take a closer look at whats around in Camden and The Oaks just in case but I think at this stage I'm just going to go straight for my RPL and save $1k-$2k by not doing the PAX endorsement

It's just not a smart financial decision to go learning a Jab or some other LSA for the PAX when I'm also going for my RPL. It's very unlikely I'll go back to flying LSAs once I have that RPL in a larger plane
