rjtetc,
I have found the Dual unit very good, but have not used it enough yet to determine the real battery life, except to say that the it is longer than the endurance of any aircraft I might be flying that doesn't have a brasco.
The Bluetooth pairing with the iPad2 was simple, the time from on to providing GPS information to the iPad is much faster than some of the TSO GPS I use from time to time.
Indeed, I can get a useable GPS output sitting at my desk at home, something neither of my TomTom car units will achieve, my TSO Trimble/Freeflights are not in the hunt, despite clear line of sight reception to an external pre-amp equipped antenna.
Tootle pip!!

+1 for the Dual.
it does need a view of the northern horizon to get a good sat pickup.
The only problem I have had is leaving it in the aircraft ...luckily it has reappeared in my mailbox (so far).
I bought an external battery pack that will recharge any USB powered device (including the iPad2) from here as insurance against the iPad running out of steam just when you really need it.

GNS5870 with IPad 1 today BNE- PER and it was flawless for the 5:30 that it was in use. Sucked the crap out of the battery on the iPad though. Plugged in at 96%, had ozrunways running from about 15K on climb out and had 14% battery left on shut down- about 13% per hour I think.
No complaints with it so far.

I get a perfectly useable signal on my iPads own gps, no fancy external unit required. It takes a while to acquire the fix but after that it is fine. That is with heated windshields etc at turboprop speeds and altitudes, no sim card for the assisted gps either.

OK, I admit it I am Ipad illiterate, BUT have just got my new IP2 and downloaded Oz runways, Q: is this Version 2 I have downloaded? or am I missing something in the app store .... just shows app as OZ Runways, cost was about $9.50 I think. Anyhoo still working out how to drive it and would love to be able to hook it up to my new Garmin695 somehow. Soon should have the best equipped bugsmasher in Oz.
thanks in advance

If you just downloaded it, it will be 2.0.1. That should have been a free download. The $9.50 app you downloaded might have been NAIPS?
You've got a month to try it for free, after that, go to our website at OzRunways | Mobile Aviation Apps for Australia to buy/renew the subscription for a lower price than you see in the app. (Because Apple doesn't take 30% if you get it direct from our site.)

I have a question re OzRunways - how come I seem to have to download all the charts etc every time I want to use it. Is there a setting to retain old charts etc or to automatically download charts?
Disregard, just found the "file Purge" issue thread.

Sorry fellas, I think I asked this before but can't remember the answer
Are you fellas going to be geo-referencing approach plates? (DAP, not jepperson)
This is the only thing left that in my opinion would make your product perfect!
For Obama: Perfect = the ducks nuts, a ball tearer, corker

hey rowan, bas. When's the next version due out?
My Jepps renewal is coming up soon and I'd rather get a subscription to ozrunways (once I've tried the new version) than continue with jepps.
Any chance of getting the CAO's on their as an ammendment service as well?

Good news everyone!
We have just submitted 2.5 to Apple. Approval can take anywhere from 24 hours to 10 days...
We currently do not have access to this information and doing 1700 or so by ourselves is too much of a task. That said: we are looking at alternative sources of data that may or may not have geo-referencing for Australia. (Not trying to be cloak and dagger here, we honestly don't know yet as getting access is slow.)
Would we like the geo-referenced and even 3D high ways in the sky? Hell yeah! But it's going to take some time and sourcing of good data. We are really keen to get STARs in soon, as we do have waypoint data for those.
Tada! User Manuals | OzRunways We put the 2.5 documentation up so you can see what is coming. X-Plane setup isn't dead-easy, but if you can figure out how to fly an airplane...
Good idea, we'll have to look into it. They are CASA documents and it the past we have had no luck getting permission to put in things like the pilot guides and VFG. But it's been a while, maybe they have had a change of heart and we should ask again!

just wondering since you test ozrunways using x plane how do you do it?

Baswell et al
I have just looked at the Flt Plan manual.
Can you flight plan to some point other than an aerodrome? If so, can you put in a point that is user specified (ie a Lat Long, or even a point on the map that you point to by finger/or a stylus)?
Also can you rubber band (ie modify in flight) a flight plan to a point that is not an aerodrome?
From my first look seems only able to go to aerodromes as turning points/destinations, but I am usually wrong when I speed read a manual.
Great job from all of you and you richly deserve your success.
Regards
John

Baswell:
Don't bother about that one baswell. The guides are available from CASA as .PDF's and I've downloaded them onto the iPad. I use Goodreader to organise my docs in the iPad.
What I'm now thinking about is a backup iPad.
