Wow! The ACT is full of high achievers...!
I would say that it is probably because of all the defence force officers, public servants, diplomats (maybe), politicians, justices etc

You can earn $80k+ base (+ overtime) driving a forklift in a factory.

You can earn $80k+ base (+ overtime) driving a 5 tonne delivery truck.

What can you do?

Don't become a pilot if you want to make big bucks!
Dunno about that XXX. Those figures would be the exception rather than the rule, and would include Superannuation.
Maybe highly unionized semi-government workplaces like the Wharf or train drivers, or mining industries might get that sort of money for these low skilled jobs.

You know some of the stuff that I am involved with, and Road train truck drivers don't get much more than 80K (well over the award & camping in the truck and away from home sometimes 5 days). The guy in the yard on the forklift sure as hell don't get nowhere near 80k.

Average wage of $63k works out at $31/hr!. I don't know many people who earn that, and spend every night home.

I have a lot of mates who work in the mining and gas industries. These guys are away for 3-5 weeks at a time working 12 hour SHIFTS. They bring home 100-150k, and believe me, earn every cents. Take off 34% for tax, and it's hard work for hard money.

Quite right, I've yet to meet the mythical 100k cleaner too. The one or two I know in FIFO are around 55-60k.

I dunno about the one you're referring to, but this train driver is...

Driving the Hunter Valley coal trains, I grossed $95,000, with a bit of overtime. Now I'm driving iron ore trains in the Pilbara and earning a touch under $150,000, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Residential employees get more. A lot more...

MX

MX is one of the best papers in the world.......

for lighting fires and painting projects.

A handful of them through town always, but never opened.

Why, because the reporting is petty, tied up with petty bitchiness & gossip - which seems to be the way of the future for our once great country.

Have noticed that people not working in a given industry tend to believe that people that do are always earning more than the ones in it actually are. (grass is greener syndrome)

Have come to learn there is no easy way to make big bucks. Have met a few cleaners etc at mine sites and yes they make a bit more than in town, but no where near 100k and they work night/day and are away from home 2 weeks at a time.

As for road transport I can gross between 1500 and 2000 a week for b-double or road train work, but as someone else pointed out will be working 12 +hrs/ day often at night and away for long periods of time. Good money, but hard work.
Also a bit of experience is required to get these jobs, eg start on small rigid and work your way up.

The reason this pays well is because it is hard work and not many people want to do it any more because school teachers encourage folks to go to uni and get an office type job.

If transport companies had people walk in everyday asking for work the pay would probably be less too, similar to flying.

So I guess all we need is less people wanting to be pilots and the pay will go up! Haha

Yep, mainly the public servants. Excellent starting pay ($57k is not bad for in some cases a very first job), but it's a bit like communism: An engineer and a receptionist get the same money. If you're in a skilled job you can hit the ceiling pretty fast if you don't fancy the idea of going into full time management.

The politicans don't live in Canberra, they just come and go (along with their various hangers-on) in business class seats on QF at your expense

Do you mean "average" or "minimum" wage? (for the RPT Turbine question)

It's easy for any job to be below "average" wage as there are a lot of high paying jobs out there boosting up the averages, but if it's below minimum wage (award) that's a different story.

I was recently told that Taxi drivers in Victoria because they work as sole contractors and the Government allows it, they are actually working for as low as $8 an hour.... and you thought your wage was low!

Truck drivers where i work (minesite) on a week on week off roster earn $116000 a year.

Supervisors just short of $150 000 a year.
