Ladies and gentleman, this service is six minutes behind schedule because the train in front of us is a stops-all-stations. The only way past would be to fly over it but if I was called a pilot, I'd probably be making another 100 grand a year.

Given the public perception battle that is going on, it would seem that Qantas is well in front.

You can earn $80k+ base (+ overtime) driving a forklift in a factory.

You can earn $80k+ base (+ overtime) driving a 5 tonne delivery truck.

What can you do?

Don't become a pilot if you want to make big bucks!

Gosh, my sister worked at the Dulux factory over 10 years ago and the factory hands and forklift drivers were earning $68k and were calling in the union about a pay rise.

My olds were in Kunna and came across a guy who had a forklift ticket and was living in a tent earning near 6 figures, but that's Kunna. Jobs in the city definitely pay more than regionals too.

What is the average salary these days?

I would also like to know where these jobs are, give me the names of some companys that pay this much money for that type of job. You always here of these sorts of jobs, but they seem to evaporate when you want one.:cool:

It's only been in the last couple of years that I have made more money being a pilot than in my many 'unskilled' jobs, when I drove trucks I made $70k per annum and that was in 1993!:eek:

I already gave you one well known company.

How about a diesel mechanic for a well known hire company. $4,000 per week gross. Heard about someone who got that one last week.

There are plenty of jobs out there and whilst pilot wages decrease or remain static, the rest of the jobs in the country continually increase.

Pretty soon the average wage will overtake the J* FO wage :ugh:

Same as how you 'can' make $80k flying planes.. It's just a lot more difficult

So a delivery truck driver gets paid $16000 more than the national average, RUBBISH :rolleyes::rolleyes:

We just recently employed someone at my work whom left a job driving a 5 tonne delivery truck on $80k + overtime.

Times are a changing..... if you work hard, you get paid well, seemingly unless you are a pilot.

Well that must include engineers, you said earlier about a diesel mechanic on $4000/pw, so that's > $200k a year. Now I am very close to a 5 cat LAME working for an airline that doesn't get any where near that.

Blame all of this on the cut-price airline trade!

What I am saying is that these big pay packets for relativly unskilled work are urban
myth, ask to see the group certificate before you believe those wages.

I employ forkies and 8tonne drivers and i assure you they dont receive that sort of renumeration !:confused:

Just had a look at the 'Rail Industry Award 2010' and I would suggest based on an Operational Level 6 Driver of an 8,000Tonne they are on $835.70 per Week. + Allowances. http://www.airc.gov.au/awardmod/awards/rail.pdf
So about the same as an FO on a regional when you add all the allowances. an extra $100k would put a driver on par with a Captain of Narrow body.

I dunno Arnold, maybe they pay more in Vic versus South Australia. Times are changing and people get paid a lot of money these days for doing crap jobs and doing crap at those jobs.

Pack your RV and head to Victoria where the gases is obviously greener or head to the rigs where they pay $250k for a cook and $350k for an electrician.

Yes but rmcdonal you are doing something that many in aviation are guilty of.

The award is the bare legal minimum, not something to aspire to.

It takes the melbourne metro operator 72 weeks to train their drivers. There are no train driver 'sausage factories' pumping out hundreds of legally qualified ones a year.

They get paid well above the award. The figures stated before are accurate, about 85k base but most getting near 100k with overtime.

Add 100k to that =200k, now how many (non QF) pilots in aus earn that?

The reality is that they have to pay people more in the ACT because nobody wants to live there.

And........

For most 'Pollies' the only (convenient) way in / out, is by.......aircraft!

So.....organise thru your unions to NOT carry them until you get a decent set of 'T/C's....awarded Federally.
