NAVIG8R don’t you find it strange that there are no posts from cadets defending REX?

The silence speaks volumes.

"Once again I can only laugh at some of the articles regarding the Rex cadetship. PPRuNe provides quite a bit of entertainment with all the rumours doing the rounds. It seems there are lots of people who knows exactly how the cadetship works, but they have never been in contact with the organisation or any of the cadets to gain firsthand knowledge. Very amusing I must say.

I guess this forum is just living up to its name, or at least part of it, as it is definitely a rumour network. "

Im quite offended. If people just read the official FAQ it would be obvious that the rex group has aircraft in which Rex Cadets can fly to gain command hours. It also would be obvious that rex does shift there cadets around.. that is mentioned in the FAQ.. Just reading the information in Rex's Official FAQ and Cadet Handbook would have answered many of the questions being asked here.

Crikey Phyk, if you're not management then you're certainly a stooge. Talk about spin.

Yes REX do have aircraft in which Cadets gain command hours, they're called PA28's, and each cadet will do approx 70 hours command as part of their training. Not enough to meet the mins for ATPL, and ceratinly not enough to satisfy the SAAB command requirements of the AOC.

Also, if you're game, please enlighten the forum as to exactly where REX "shift" their cadets around? Mangalore to Wagga perhaps!

As far as being in first hand contact with the Cadets, I fly with many of the graduates almost daily. You would be surprised what they have to say! I think it's safe to say that your level of contact probably does not extend beyond the interview table, or perhaps the classroom.

Finally, my heart bleeds that you're offended. How about a nice warm cup of concrete!

I'd like to clarify my position on the Cadetship, and Cadets Owen'.

Mate, to say you're being a bit tough is definitely an understatement. Without exception the graduated cadets that I have flown with are terrific young men and women. Mind you I have heard the courses beyond 1 and 2 have generally found the going tough. So time will tell just what the overall sucess rate will be.

The Cadetship was promoted by REX management as the panacea for REX's Crewing problems. Absolute, unmittagated BS!!! The Cadetship was formed for one thing only, to effectively prevent REX pilots (ex Cadets) from leaving. Something that many graduated Cadets are now beginning to realise. A secondary reason is the opportunity to make money by training overseas students.

The greatest problem for graduated REX cadets IMHO, will be comming to grips with their place in the world as professional aviators. With QF you have a defined career path. Not so with REX! Maybe REX cadets didn't think too long or hard about that, or maybe they did. As pilots however, I can say from first hand knowledge, they certainly make the grade.

Cadets training cadets? now I am not sure about everyone else but if I signed up for a cadetship and then found out I was being trained by someone who had recently graduated from the program I dont think I would be really impressed.

Krusty: I agree with you as most of the guys/girls from the cadetship I have flown with are great people and I often catch up for a beer with some outside of work. The flying skill side of things in my opinion is a bit of a mixed bag with some good and some bad but they are keen to work to improve which is good to see. It will be interesting come winter time when the wx clags in and they get busy doing approaches to see how they cope as I have seen some of them overload themselves on a visual approach and things tend to get messy.

alot keep asking me about this icus program that they have been promised as well but as i keep telling them I cant see how it will work with the saab being 99% left pilot orientated until 80kias with the 1% for the rhs reading the checklist!

I guess time will tell and I keep being told that the only reason PelAir went for the air ambulance was so these cadets could get command time which I usually just laugh at. Does anyone know the actual contract mins, i assume its in the ball park of the company mins they advertise.

not trying to bag cadets but it seems that they just keep getting fed crap from management.

Sorry Mate,

I am still in the classroom, In year 12. I was only trying to explain that in the FAQ it does say the cadet works for Rex and its other companies. I assumed that it is beneficial for REX to send its cadets to its other companies where they can gain Command Hours. I do currently know a REX cadet who started there training last year and has been told that this is how it works. Only sharing my opinion, official TEXT that I have read, and what I have heard.

Cheers
Ben

Ben, corporations can lie to suit their particular agenda.

While one cannot say this is a lie, reality, rules and legislation would seem to indicate so. Some to whom you speak are far more connected than you assume, they are only trying to assist you to make an informed decision.

Delve a little deeper into the operations of the erroneously listed companies, there upon lies your answer. Some multi engine command time MAY be available, though only through one of the operators. Compare the amount of work this sole operator presently completes with the number of cadets annually.

Friendly piece of advice:- Loose the attitude, it will get you no where.

Airlink:
maybe able to get a hundred hours command in a 310/pa31 per year but more likely stuck in the rhs of the 1900.

rex freight and charter:
I assume you mean pel air? the short answer is no as they will be in same position as they are at Rex.

AAPA:
as far as I am aware an instructor rating is not part of the cadetship (and not sure if the school is approved to), but I am sure they will bond you for one for some stupid amount of money so probably not even worth it if it is eventually offered.

next you will be telling us all that they are going to fly the jets for rexjet

c'mon mate open your eyes

wow actually after reading the faq I have alot more questions to ask the guys/girls now.

Well there you go Phyk, my remark about you not knowing anything past the classroom was surprisingly accurate. I just assumed however you were a grown up. A naive, agenda driven grown up, but still some-one old enough to have a beer!

If you are who you say you are (anonymous forum and all that stuff), then I'm quite impressed. At 17 I wouldn't have had the Kahuna's to wade into a debate in such company, armed with nothing more than bad attitude, and trusting in the rock solid ethics of those who possess none. By the way, there is no Santa Clause! Oops, sorry another childhood myth shattered. Oh well, we all have to grow up sometime.

If you are interested in a future career in aviation, please keep track of your cadet friend's progress. Hopefully it'll prove enlightening. If your posts are no more than a wind-up, equally well done.

Krusty.

Cadetship ....A truly successful road to Nowhere

Dear Phyk / Ben,
the cadetship has always been about:
  1. creating a short term fix to a long term problem (Unfortunately the poor standards of the cadets and the inability to ever get command has turned it into a 'Long Term fix' designed for an unsolvable problem)
  2. churning capital to get the AAPA off the ground and appease shareholders with an initial influx of hoodwinked REX cadets (remember when the initial cadets were promised command within 3 years during their interview?)
  3. after the AAPA is on its feet, cadets from overseas (ie China) will continue to fund the school (making shareholders happy again)
  4. creating an 'airline' ( I use the word airline loosely here) with very experienced career REX Captains who never thought of leaving and cheap labour in the right hand seat , unfortunately almost all of these Captains are now sending applications anywhere they can as well....I wonder why
I could rant on alot more about the cadetship, and mind you, I have acquaintances (or should I proudly say "colleagues"?) who are at various stages of the cadetship all the way through to those online, so I know intimately what goes on at the AAPA....but I won't rant anymore. Like it has been said before, I'll just be casting pearls.

Do not be surprised that the cadetship could soon be put on hold when the first Chinese airline cadets (the real airlines) start in April or thereabouts, for reasons quite obvious. And for those who still can't get it , the cadetship has done what REX needed it to do for them (sort of), and now REX has got to stop the Monster they created from growing any bigger, or angrier ( heard of the cadet/s trying to 'corner' the CP recently to remind and question him of the 'promise' made about ICUS/Command yet?, I'm sure you have).

Also, as a REX cadet, it is more likely that V Aus will give you ANOTHER dead-end job as an SO rather than REX letting you loose in a B1900, Chieftain or B350 anytime soon. And if you want a nice gloss over of how great a job being a B777 SO on $59k+allowances a year and watching others fly an aeroplane for at least 3 years, go talk to the silly bloke/FO with the teapot hanging from his waist (you know who). He is telling the whole of REX how great the position is, that he has an interview with them and how excited he is to have a chance to hop over to VB in a few years after gaining all that International experience with V Aus, and on top of that he'll be earning $10k more than what he is getting at REX and blah blah blah.

Now leave Krusty alone, he's spending too much time here casting pearls instead of cleaning his swimming pool.

Attitude..

I may have a attitude problem in your view... but I find your consistent shutting down of various schemes offered to newcomers rude. Also I can not understand why everyone is comparing jobs based on pay.. I sure would enjoy flying and getting paid (as long as its liveable) period... Seems like some people have been in this industry too long.. and have forgotten why they started flying in the first place.. Did you actually start flying because of the money!! I would take a RHS of a SAAB any day over sitting in an office.

Rex Pilot Cadet Program

Hey guys!!

Just wondering if any of you guys out there are willing to share some lights? what are your thoughts on the program? I've Been out of the industry for a a few years since I first got my CPL, wanting to get myself back to flying now. Does anyone know if the cadetship takes up people with CPL, or is it strictly for people without any hours??

cheers~~

Hi K3nnyboy.

There are a couple of threads regarding the Rex cadet scheme already on this fourm. Most of the posts paint a pretty dim picture of the scheme. I applied but heard nothing back from them and despite follow up emails, still nothing. Strikes me as very unprofessional. In a way, I'm glad they have ignored me. I will be following the traditional route into commercial flying and judging by the posts I've read on these forums and info gleaned from elsewhere; I think I'm probably doing the right thing.

Good luck if you choose to try the Rex scheme. Whichever way you choose to go about it, I hope things work out for you.

Cheers,

Cn

If you have a CPL or are close to it, then get out there and slog it out on your own and dont bother with it....

If you are switched and show some initiative, within a few years you'll have waaaay better prospects, and pay than if you went down the Rex path..

Good luck...
