Mega Merged: REX Recruitment/Cadetship and Working for REX
Don't stress about the WOMBAT, there is nothing you can really do to prepare for it aside from get a good night's sleep, as it requires sustained focus for 2.5 hours. You learn it on the day and have 30 mins or so to practice before you start the assessment. The simulator is for a Piper Seminole, and no there isn't much feedback (i.e. not a full motion sim). I won't guess about which course you'd be eligible for, but they run them very regularly.

Has anyone heard anything with regards to direct entry FO recruitment? I would think I’ve got an attractive resume with regards to aviation experience and I’ve had an application in for a few months now yet heard nothing.
Good luck though
Good luck.

Not long after their focus was cadet hiring. Rightly or wrongly it was the time. Direct entries are sort after, but you need to update every 2 weeks minimum. Change anything in your application, that'll send you to the top of the pile. They don't need to dig deep for applications. Rightly or wrongly.
Good luck.

The cadetship is a cash cow for them. Charge an over the top amoint for training then bind them with substandard terms and conditions.
Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't rehire the crews they stood down in favour of 'training' a massive batch of cadets.

Can you elaborate on some of the 'substandard terms and conditions' provided by REX?
I'm looking at applying for their cadetship next year so any info is useful. Also - how does it compare to other ones in Australia?
Nothing wrong with it but there are vastly different views on this topic - I've had a graduate (and current REX employee) speak highly of it whilst others detest it?

Apologies to add to the millions of these posts.
Anyone heard anything regarding the Rex 026 intake? AAPA website says they'll start in Oct 2020 but Rex says Early 2020 - assuming either the 'rona or just not being needed on mainline caused the pushback.
Personally submitted an application about 6 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything, refraining from calling just yet as the application confirmation specifically said not to. Hopefully get through to at least WOMBAT but we shall see.

i know that doesn’t answer your question directly
My guess is not in 1 year, but 2 years from now demand will have picked up again and pilots will be required in numbers at the regional level. If you can commit to the training now and possibility support yourself through alternate employment for 6-12 months after the course if no airline work is available then it may be a good idea to start training now.
