And the grand finale.

Australia advertised to live on fraser Island for 6 months, get paid and have the worlds best job promoting your experience for tourism. We received 35000 applications.

The Kiwis copied it but for three months and received 30

An Aussie then got the job

so happy to find this thread!!

Hi Guys

Oh boy was I happy to find this thread! I recently discovered the NZ student loan scheme as a way into flight training and I was dissapointed reading posts saying it wasnt possible through NMIT.

When there's a will theres a way! Alas.. it seems that there maybe a way to get my CPL!

I am desperate to get up in the air (well as a pilot instead of cabin crew) and just never thought it would be possible because of funding - hence why I am still stuck down the back!

I read that Mainland Air will take you on to do this course? How is everyone going with getting info and applications sorted? Any info you can share?

Don't suppose we could all be buddies in applying??.. hell... if successful move over together and share a house?? lol!

Anywhere will hook you up with a position if you front up with the money. Most places insist they have an interview, but at the end of the day, unless you have serious issues, they'd love to take your money.

When choosing your location, do factor in the climate. It's a big move, moving from warm/mild winters in Perth to a very cool climate in Dunedin. Perhaps look at Tauranga (Bayflight) or Nelson (NAC) which both seem to be very good, equivalent options with a slightly warmer climate.

Edit: Forgot to add, as you have probably read, some places wont take you via NMIT because you are Australian. Kiwis first, everybody else second unless you're paying cash.

I welcome Australians to come to NZ to do there pilot training using our student loan scheme. It may not seem like it at face value but it is great for our economy in the long term. If you are Australian and you are thinking of doing this take my advice, it isn't as good as it sounds, I know an Aussie that learnt this the hard way. You will be paying 7 point something percent interest until you have paid off every last cent if you leave NZ. Don't think you can 'sneak out', you are paying interest on it the minute after you hand your passport to the customs official at the airport. If you think you are getting a free licence (as some people have said in this thread) you have a another thing coming. Our government doesn't appreciate foreigners stealing money from our hard working tax payers. They will take everything you have ever worked for plus more and sell it for next to nothing just to prove a point.

Telling the debt collectors that 'kiwis have been bludging off us for years' as they are cleaning out your house wont get you anywhere.

Think what you want about these comments, but I've seen it happen.
