I'm quite interested in this NMIT path. I have got some further info from them, but would anyone be able to comment on any of the schools that come under the program? Or what schools/areas of the country would be best positioned weatherwise for completing FT training?
I have sent a couple emails off but would like any first hand experience if possible. Particularly the Bay Flight Intl school in Tauranga? I read a couple of old threads (2003/04) that indicate it's a pretty good school but as with anything, things could be different now...
Air New Plymouth New Plymouth
Ardmore Flying School Auckland
Bay Flight International Ltd Tauranga
Christchurch Helicopters Christchurch
CTC Aviation Training NZ Hamilton
Flight Training Manawatu Feilding
Helipro Aviation Training Ltd Palmerston North
International Aviation Academy of New Zealand Christchurch
Mainland Aviation College Otago
Nelson Aviation College Motueka
Waikato Aero Club Hamilton

The International Aviation Academy of New Zealand in Christchurch is quite good. You get to operate around jet traffic as it uses a parallel grass runway to the main runway at Christchurch International Airport. Plus you have an ILS at your disposal, and don't need to go somewhere else for it.
Bay flight is good as well and the climate in Tauranga is much warmer in winter than Chch.
I'm sure some of the other schools are just as good though so happy hunting.

I've tried to be in contact with Nelson Aviation College to ask them a few questions and nothingtried via email and online enquire form. CTC aviation have about 4-5 interviews and testing that need to be completed to be accepted. So thats alot of back and forth flying from Aus to NZ so I guesss there out to. Don't like the sound of international Aviation Company as all your CPL theory is done on computers. I would rather have a instrucotr teaching me, but I guess alot of schools going this way with self study on computers Anyone got info on the other schools? I would like a school with accomodation on or near airfiled and school.
Thanks
Thanks
Aussies taking our loans AND expecting some hour building work Yeah right.

Finally got some replies from NAC and I followed up with NMIT. They are of course giving all positions to Kiwi's as expected.
Hi Michael,
Sorry, I didn’t pick up that you are an Australian. If I had realised, I would have told you exactly the same thing. This will be true of all our providers as this reflects NMIT’s position with scarcity of government funded positions for Pilot Training, which has been especially tight recently. My apologies for the oversight.
I wish you all the best in finding somewhere to study though!
NMIT
Dear Michael
In response to your enquiry, due to the limited number of government funded places available for pilot training, we must give priority to New Zealand citizens before Australia citizens. Therefore, we’re unable to consider your application under the student loan system at this time. If you would like to self fund your training, we would welcome your application.

Load of bollocks. Australians are equally entitled to the student loan over there. You are treated as a local student, NOT as an 'international student'.
Anyone telling you otherwise is full of it. Take your money (okay, Auntie Helen's money) elsewhere!
Now, the school may prefer to take on locals, but there are ample places, despite what they might tell you. Try the smaller schools.
At Mainland Air, I went over, did everything in 12 months, worked for them for 18 months, then moved back to Australia.
My only regret is not staying longer.

Goblin, Ahh come on mate, I know of dozens and dozens of kiwis who have gone looking for a job across the ditch, and all have returned or are still there working at a fastfood outlet.
You guys did good things with that bonus that Rudd gave ya though, come and spent it on the Southern Skifields, and NZ economy has benefited as a result instead of the Oz one as Rudd hoped!
