AIPA + Loss of license?

Hi all!

I done searches on LOL available for pilots other then the one exclusive with AFAP. So far, I have found on a post regarding "tower insurance". However, curiously...

What policy do flight crews use for loss of license insurance for those that are outside AFAP?

For Qantas Union, the AIPA, on their website, they say they have at least 2500 flight crew members. If so, what protection are those flight crews using? It would be silly to not protect yourself for any mishap but not much is marketed.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Aku

Theres a few around but personally I dont have any. I have health and Home insurance thats it, oh yeah 3rd party for my car but hell I drive like a grandpa! Regards to career well so be it, if I am mildly incapacitated to lose my license I'll do something else if its serious then I have health insurance to cover me. At the end of the day I believe most insurance is a con job anyway, yes its valuable at times but hell for comprehensive insurance for my car worth about 15k they want 600 dollars a year I mean come on its been 6 years almost 30%the value, no thanks... but probably some will reply with a few options, I do know that the premiums have increased the last few years and the benefits slightly dropped compared to yesteryear, but there are still a few around, GL!

AIPA doesn't do a loss of license scheme (anymore).

All QF crew have loss of license through the company which pays about $750K- this is at nil cost to the crew member although I'm sure it was 'paid for' at some stage in return for less of a pay rise.

We did do income protection for a while (about 2000 or so?!?) but the costs became so exorbitant that it eventually got wound up.

Another QF guy or gal will happen along shortly to correct any of the above if I've got it wrong.

There are pros and cons for all and would need to be evaluated against your personal situation. No doubt there are more.

AIPA and insurance

AIPA used to provide specialist OWN Occupation insurance ( only available for pilots). This was stopped after some debate about acting as an insurance intermediary.
However, it is still available to all AIPA members, QANTAS and Jetstar pilots.

The scheme is not available though a broker or advisor, but only directly from the insurer, AIA Life, in Melbourne.

It is called TopCover, and it was initially designed as a benefit of union membership for the HKAOA and DPA ( CX and KA) where it has been in place for over 8 years. It offer income protection for 5 years, plus Personal Accident insurance plus pilot-specific Critical Illness cover.

For details contact either AIPA, or go straight to the insurer:
