"However, one of my mates who is a rather very senior at BoM person, suggests that we're tailing off from La Nina phase now and starting to head for the next El Nino peak in a few years time. He reckons the best chance of flooding was probably this summer just passed."

Back in the early 80s when I did my CPL theory at YPFL TAFE the lecturer was, amongst other things, a qualified Meteorologist.
One of his favourite sayings when doing the CPL/SCPL Met subjects was to refer to met forecasts thus;
''...so when you go into the briefing office and get the current 'fairy tale'......''

I remember speaking to a station owners wife who told me they were going to get a lot of rain soon because the "computer modules" at the Bureau of Met said so.

Speaking of forecasts . . . in the olden days when I was doing my night VFR rating in a rainy and cold Perth winter I called up Flight Service (anyone remember them?) to get a forecast and possibly submit my flight plan. After declaring what I intended doing that night the guy at the other end took a deep breath and wistfully said “Do have a fireplace at home?”. I said yes, somewhat puzzled. He quickly added “And a bottle of port – because that’s where you should be”. It was good advice and I now thank him for his wisdom.

Anyone know the fuel status at Innaminka, William Ck and Maree?

There is one drum at Innamincka with my name on it for locust surveys.
Trevor would probably have some at William Ck, by arrangement.
Marree would also be by arangement, drums.
Birdsville is loading avgas and jet out of here tomorrow in anticipation of the roads opening early next week, Bulk.
Windorah is getting some more over the weekend, Bulk.
Tibooburra has Avgas, Bulk.
Boulia has Avgas, Bulk. Contact the Council.
Moomba is off limits to most.

Reminds me of one night in '97(?) on the AirNorth newspaper run between Katherine and Tennant Creek when the cloud layer beneath me broke up to reveal the reflection of the moon. I absolutely sh1t myself Thought I'd somehow managed to fly a 180 degree error (for over two hours) and was on my way to PNG.
