Admin Office - (677) 20031
Ops Office - (677) 36048
All on their website. Call and ask for better contact information.
Geeup, interesting. I've heard similar but a different operator might be doing that. Said operator already flies there too....
I'd presume the FAA license would be taken, it's ICAO isn't it?
Conversion to get a Sollies license is just the air law exam (based on the British Overseas Territories or something like that).

Thx Myname,
FAA do is ICAO, so basically I need only the Air Law exam as you said.
I just wonder if the hiring mins are still the ones you wrote and if they still accept guys with green CPL...

woltgreat, I presume that the company will still take freshie CPLs (unless geeup's got it right about APNG coming in to run the show- things may be different if that were to happen).
Air law exam (and thus license conversion) was paid for by the company; the exam was conducted by the Solomons Civil Aviation department. Pretty easy actually!
There is generally a pretty high turnover in the company, more so with F/Os. Throw your hat in the ring and see how you go!

Thanks guys.
JetX I have no turbine experience and I wasn't looking for being a captain...
Looks like it's impossible to find a free spot for a green CPL right now, anywhere in the world you go you find it stuck.
But I keep believing that somewhere the spot exists...

Hi Trex,
thank you for the words of support.
Obviously I don't give up, if you want something in this job as in life you've got to fight and word hard for the target, so...I keep searching, with the same will as before.
I did want to talk to them directly and that's what I will do.
I suppose McGrew is the chief of Hevilift (now Regional), isn't he?
I think in aviation there's nothing as hard as the beginning, when you are a green CPL and got to find your first little chance to get out of yours 250 hrs...ever known and been aware of this, now I am only living and facing it with the right determination and NO impatience!

I am a pilot just finished an aviation degree in australia.
I am from Hong Kong with CPL, MECIR, TT 270hours.
with my passport, visa and current economy downturn, i don't see any chance that I can get a flying job within australia, although I can obtain a graduate VISA which allowing me to stay in oz and work for 1.5yr.
Do you guys think that I will have any chance to get a job in PNG or Solomon Island as DHC 6 copilot?

Hi KazaF911& Woltgreat,
All I can say guys is you'll will never know till you talk to them, also keep a look out on the afap.website for latest jobs. I know McGrew prefers people to email him so go for it,you will never know plus his hardly in the office long enough his busy flying. Ever since Airlink stopped operation the only other mob that hires guys with 250-300 hrs that I know of is solair and hevilift some times, but if you hold a FAA CPL then their is a mob in Pago that's always looking for Donnier 228 F/Os their last in take were 2guys straight out of Ardmore Flying Sch that went to the US and converted there NZ CPL to US CPL

Hi trex,
I guess you are talking about Inter Island Airways, but as far as I can see on their website they are looking for Dornier 328 captains.
Sent a CV though, another one is gone!
I guess the McGrew you're talking about is the chief of Hevilift (Regional)...sent a CV there too, let's see what happens...

Hi Woltgreat,
I can tell you right now that those boys do not have a 328, they have 1 228 and 1 Bn2a , well..... 2 228 if you count the one used for spare parts sitting in the hangar.

Also I am from Hong Kong and holding a british national oversea passport, will that be disadvantage?

Hi trex,
uhm...I did a Google research, and in Pago (American Samoan, isn't it?) I found only Inter Island operating the 228.
Anyway, PM me if you got the name of the one you're talking about, I would appreciate.
Thx again dude!

PNG takes CASA, FAA NZCAA or any other ICAO initials but you will need to sit a PNG airlaw and IREX which its pretty straight forward if you studied CASA or NZ airlaw.
Woltgreat,
Thats the one, they only have one carrier in Pago, let me know if they dont reply I have personal contacts for the top boys.

Time to Spare?
Time to Spare- Fly Sol Air.
It is an extremely amatuerish operation. The local pilots are terrified of weather and generally dont even turn up for work if it looks like rain.
It is my sincere belief the only thing you will learn from them is bad habits. Believe me, you are not that desparate. And I dont even know you!

Even if it looks impossible I will find something down there in PNG, that's my target at the moment.
Giving them plenty of phone calls, getting informed and not giving up may work, I still don't lose my hope...

This would be hard to bet especially when compared to regionals in oz
