Flying Instructor Wages

Out of curiosity, whats the going rate for a grade 3 around the traps? I know most schools were migrating to paying their instructors as the full time employees they are, but what are the paying them? If I am correct the minimum wage is about 28k, is that being paid or are people paying more?

35 000 seems to be the standard nowadays. Some schools offer bonuses on top too.

Its called 2 minute noodles mate lol.

Its funny how the world goes round isnt it.
When you learned to fly, most off students think they pay to much for the plane plus instructor, now the shoe is on the other foot the poor student doesn't seem to pay enough to the instructor.

If 33k is the min wages and you can't make hands meet, just lay off on the booze a bit.
there are plenty off people who will make 33k for the rest off there working life, at least for you guys there is some light at the horizon when you move on from you job, to something bigger and better.

If you really need some advise on how to life off 33k a year than ask you kiwi mates in kiwi land who make a LOT less than than that flying planes.

And if you are not happy with your wages is there any change you go up north and do charterwork??

Have your accomodation payed for, or half off it. Do lots off flying, some places don't have pubs so you can't get to carried away drinking and safe money.
A bloke who worked for the same mob as i did, was based in a comunity. he saved enough money in 1 year (that included a job cleaning the school in the off time when he wasn't flying) to pay for his MEIR.

good luck

Well instructing over here in Kiwiland, we would honestly love a salary of $34k..... most places i know of hire instructors casually (paid per flight hour) pay rates ranging $14 - $25 per hour. And thats NZD which isnt that great.

Another thing to keep in mind is NZ's weather (auckland especially) some months you'd be lucky to do 25 hours. Makes for very thin wallets over the cold winter months.

Yep the goverment just bin the whole student loan idea.

That way only guys and girls who really want to learn to fly will somehow get the money together and learn.

And don't give me the "and how are we suopse to get the money together than??" BS

If that was the case, (no student loans at all) than there will be no doubt less pilots going trough the flying schools.

It all comes down to demand and supply.

As long as there are pilots out there who would work for free, don't expect to get payed more than you do in the early stages off your career.

If there were a lot less pilots then operators will start to pay more for your qualifications.

I know it is not easy, and wish you all good luck. BUT it is your choise to be were you are. you could be flippen burgers at Mc Donnalds instead.
Just hangin there, do your time, build your hours and get your eagle/air nelson gig.

And don't forget to have fun in the meantime, won't be long and you will be doing long haul, getting bored stiff (but at least getting paid well) wondering what your missus is up to while you not home...
And wishing you could have another few hours with a clown like me trying to teach him to fly S/L and fly all the legs of the circuit lol

cheers
