Tindal Wobblies...
Whats the story ?
Tindal still closed to Aero Med because of wallabies at night?
Hear they using a helo at $9000 an hour?
FA18s cant be scrambled at night?

The tindal crew gets flown to darwin on there duty days and back on there days off. And fly out off darwin also at night. Last I heared anyway and that was not very long ago.
You wouldnt want to shoot those wallibies not would we, that be creul and all.
Not to mention to easy to get rid off a problem.
Don't they fly the F18's at night? If anyone wanted to invade ozzie you would do it in the weekend or on public holydays anyway. Tindal goes pretty quiet on friday avos and don't seem to become active till midday's on monday..
And thats good for the wallybies, gives them a few days uniterupted sleep during the day time

The RAAF are not doing much apart from the occassional shoot, seems more of a PR exercise than pest control.
They plan to put a wallaby fence up inside the main security fence to stop the things bouncing around on the rwy. Problem is, there will be great holes in it where the taxiways are! That will work......not
The RAAF have guns, the contractors have guns.
The numbers have increased from 800 - 1000 initially to what is now 1700 odd.
The captive breeding program is going quite well!
They plan to put a wallaby fence up inside the main security fence to stop the things bouncing around on the rwy. Problem is, there will be great holes in it where the taxiways are! That will work......not

When i was up there (1yr ago) they did shoot 400 of them which was keep hush but still not enough.
This happened after the the Pearl King Air struck one of them on one of the main legs near VR and con't to Darwin.
On landing that Main legs drag linkage was damaged and the leg rotated rearwards from vertical.......put it out of the air for a few months.
They did have another strike on the nose wheel prior to that also.
So thats why they pull out of Tindal at the time.
I had a few near misses all at night,they were all over the taxiways,runway running left ,right and centre when they heard an engine/s.

To clarify,
The medivac a/c was hitting wobblies almost every second night, the damage and subsequent emergency LDG were the last draw as far as the drivers were concerned.

They need "drover" there to herd al the wallabies out of the fenced area. He only needs about six people, and a few days.
But of coures they would first have to spend about two years and many millions of dollars developing a srategic, cost effective, wallaby friendly, and RAAF friendly plan and make sure the RAAF can get some new aircraft out of it.
