B777 - What Salary Would You Expect
There is a discussion thread on here about B777 opportunities in Aus.
What salary, allowances would you expect to recieve if you were to return to Aus as a B777 Capt and FO from the Emirates, SQ, BI etc.
I am talking of pilots with widebody experience.
As we know the salaries are lower in those countries to account for little or no tax, housing, medical, schooling etc.
So what salary would it take to make it worth YOU moving back to Aus.
How many flight hours would the salary be based on.
What overtime rate if you exceeded those hours.
What flight allowance would you expect.
What annual increments.
How many days off at home based per 28 day roster.
etc etc.

Captains should be getting ~$250K base salary. FOs 65-70% of this.
Overtime for more than 75 hrs per month.
Super of 10% base salary.
Allowances at ATO rates, as a minimum.
Type rating provided.
Salary increases at CPI + 2% of base salary.
LOL insurance.
42 days/year AL.
No days off at outports.

For a start circa $100k for a 'cruise F/O', not the pittance they were offering...
Annual pay rises of 4% or CPI which ever is the GREATER!!
And a guaranteed career path, not conjecture or false promises...

As I've said, to get anything like the package I recieve at EK as an after-tax sum in Aus, I would have to be paid well in excess of 300K (and THAT was before our payrise yesterday and the 14 week profit share I get on the 26th (already spent though!!))
HOWEVER, you do have to trade money for lifestyle, and we would love to return to Australia if it wasn't TO big a hit. VA are getting a few or our guys who have already made there pile here (mine doensn't even amount to a mound yet!).
I would suggest a starting figure of 250K, plus super, decent allowences, PROPER staff travel (1 free-bee a year,Business upgradable to first. Will VAs CEO be travelling economy?) and annual increments, and you might start tempting guys to come back for a career.
As far as what VA are offering Cruise FOs, if there was a clear career path for them, it would simply be insulting. As it is, taking a job on max 65K, logging no usful time with no guarenteed path to uprade is simply ludicrous!!

I agree with Ralph the Bongs figures.

That would be tempting along with a rebate if you already had the type rating and few thousand left seat 777 (to cover relocation costs of course).
Would be home tomorrow if it were not based in Sydney.

Not in the 777 business, but have done Big Boeings here and there and tasted the contract world, so uh...300K is what? Dinars or Dollars?

We're talking Aussie Dollars here. I don't get 300K, but what I get here is tax free. What I said was, to recieve the same amount net of tax as I do at Emirates (inclusive of things like accomodation, education, provident fund etc.) I'd need a gross salary in AUD of 300K+.

The fact remains you will get what pilots are willing to accept. It appears they are sounding out the market with very low packages. If they fill the slots with pilots willing to work for such low salaries they will be very happy accountants.
I saw on another thread figures around 210K.
Not nearly enough with the high housing cost, cost of living, etc,---and unfortunately the increasing beauracracy of Aus now days.

QF 767 and A330 captains are on circa $250K including allowances- about $235ishK gross. The A330 numbers may be underdone because I haven't spoken to an A330 crew for quite some time. QF 737 drivers are on similar numbers but probably do a few extra stick compared to the 767/A330.
THAT is the current benchmark for aircraft of that sort of size in Australia flying medium haul routes.......then there is J* pay and conditions. On this basis, long haul routes should attract a premium on top to cater for the longer tours of dty.
Interestingly, if you put the V Australia type of flying into a back to back LA line similar to some QF senior 744 captains and use the QF A330 rates ($202 per credit hour), you end up with a figure of about $275K once you factor in average overtime SYD-LAX-SYD. Note there are no allowances in that figure so a package of about $300K all up including allowances isn't too much of a stretch.

Don't know because i don't work in that enviroment but at a guess i think he/she is providing respite time for his colleagues and gaining valuable OJT.
Or, if they were smart they would've enter such a backstabbing and incestuous industry and become a Dentist or Chemist etc and earn just the same with no or little out-of-pocket costs.
