Capt Wally

I spelt those few words like that diliberetly
yeah yeah next you'll be saying it's not your (or indeed, not "you're") fault because you were typing quickly and I am a pilot and I am too busy and important to spell check.

Enough of your wheedling and excuses! Pick up papers in Bruce Byron's office at lunchtime and you can stay back after school for good measure.

PAF..........

Regarding writing to the Minister about RPL if you graduated from an Australian High School.

I agree, but unfortunately (from my experience) writing to the Minister is a great big waste of time....................because he won't bloody respond!

Call me cynical, but I have this nasty feeling that the english proficiency that is on my ATC records won't be recongnised on my CPL. Which means I'll have to sit this rediculously expensive test even though I'm one of the ones that has to deal with poor english speaking pilots on a daily basis?

We all know that a lot of CASA guys trawl through these threads so how about someone getting back to us here with some explanation and perhaps answers to some very good points made by PAF and others?

An RPL would certainly make a lot of sense. You finished high school in Australia and have a pass in English? It surely stands to reason then that you can speak the language, . Unless CASA believe that the education system throughout Australia is totally inept?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Level 4 is sufficient to operate internationally! You will have to re-prove yourself at regular intervals, but there'll be plenty of time to study while you're in the hotel in Lithuania.

I to just recently completed my ATPL's and after submitting my application was told that I needed to complete the ELPA, fortunately for myself being in a remote area CASA actually went the extra step and allowed me to conduct the test with them over the phone free of charge. I agree that if you have attended high school in Australia and have completed year 12 English that this should be reconised. However having spending a couple of years instructing Singaporean cadets whose main language at school is suppose to be English I feel that this kind of testing is necessary for all, just cause we are lucky enough to be brought up in a English speaking country doesn't mean we necessarily deserve differential treatment. I might say that I do think that some people maybe looking at this to get a bit more of the cherry, I called casa on my mobile the whole process was finished in less than 15 minutes, I find it hard to believe that people can justify $80 plus for the same thing.

PS thanks to Casa for going that little bit further.

The has me giggling like a loon. Irony overload.

If they ever bring in spelling, grammar and punctuation checks there are a few people here that'll be going back to work in McDonald's.

By the time they have passed ATPL I would have thought the English was just fine........

.......The problem is at the other end of the training.

hey 'fred' (Flintstone) what do you mean going 'back' to Mackers? I applied years ago to that institute & failed their English exam. Straight away I applied for a pilots license as a second choice & passed immediately! Go figure !

Bloody spelling Nazi's their taking over the world!

I have just had to sit this rort of an 'exam', and fortunately the last question asks what you 'think' of it...

...unfortunately the wonderful peeps on planet CASA (yes the completely different planet from ours evidently), probably wont get to hear my thoughts, as they will probably only be heard at the ASL headquarters (I'm picturing gold plating, Ferraris, and private jets paid for by all our exam fees...).

Anyone who has been speaking English all their life and completed school, uni, etc, should be exempt from this complete insult and waste of ten minutes of our lives (Half an hour if you include the round trip in the car!), and $99 of our hard earned.

Do CASA understand that most of the guys paying these fees are either student pilots or GA guys, for whom $99, $50, or whatever, is a friggin' fortune?? To add to that, and to open a huuuuuuuuugggeee can of worms, what exactly do our so called unions (I know, I know) have to say about this???????????

All to keep the PC morons quiet because its 'not fair that people who dont speak English well should have to pay and you dont'. BULLCR@P!!

I believe that several ATOs/CFIs can do the Level 6 test (only 6, not 1 - 5).

See if you can find someone to do it, and next time you renew your CIR they can issue you with Level 6, or they can just do it whenever you go in. Up to them if they want to charge you for it or not though (I think so anyway, I'm not an ATO)

I
had some students who completed PPL test before the due date to need the english test. By the time CASA got around to processing the paperwork, the date had passed and the studes had to do the assesment before CASA would issue a PPL.
This happened to me, took CASA a month to process PPL and then in their ineffable wisdom decided to send it back because the language test date had passed while they were stuffing around. Luckily my ATO just rang me and did the test over the phone and i don't think he charged me for it.

But best for last, only took CASA 3 days after getting faxed the language test to process and post me my ppl, so I reckon they were just hanging around so they could charge me for it!

From what I recall, ASL werent yet set up to do the Eng test on March 5, when this all came in. I remember a few foreign students who were almost but not quite 6, being ready for a PPL/CPL on Mar 6/7 etc, and having to wait until Mar twenty something before they could take the test, so that they could do the test!

None were impressed. Should make sure infrastructure is set up BEFORE you make it a legal requirement.

Cool

Good thing spelling isn't part of the test.

There would be hardly any of us left
