Sorry to go a teensy bit off topic, but what do you think will happen with MAM? Do you think it'll continue as it is, just feels like the winds of change are happening everywhere - especially at Qlink.

I'm not saying that Longhaul had many other options than to accept their EBA. But, its the calm before the storm now.

All the new crew are excited, grateful and thankful for their positions at the moment, but we all know this will change over time. In 3-5 years, the novelty will have well and truly worn off. I believe there will be massive issues with crew working relations.

I guess time will tell.

i do think

that QCCA guys will have collectively a better chance in 5 years to negotiate better conditions. some issus which will come along periodicially and will be solved (for better or worth). as a group under the faaa (international)umbrella you have a much better future. ALL the faaa has to do now is go to CASA and insist on flight duty limitations for cabin crew, as promised. get on with it boys!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading Material

Reading GQ,WHO or NO IDEA is not going to give you adequate background for understanding the Aviation industry.
There is some absolute rubbish posted here as commentary.
Try and understand the big picture and forget about the pixels

Pack rat you are right the job is not rocket science but i can relate to some of the enthusiastic hopefuls. 25 years ago when i was applying the only computer i had was my fx39 casio calculator from the HSC and to be honest i hadnt even really mastered that :P

The ability to chat to F/A's actually doing the job was something i coudnt conceive of. To those that want to know anything in particular about the job most on here are likely to give you an honest appraisal.

On a personal note i love the job as much today as i did over 20 years ago..yes it is constantly changing. If you are the sort of person that sees a glass as half full as opposed to half empty then you will adapt to the changes and enjoy it oe years.

I dont think there is much of a better job in the world, you will make great friends and if you dont lock yourself in your room you will see some great places and have a lot of fun.

We have a seniority system in LH and SH and it will take a while to get to all he destinations but be patient. THere are only about 2800 LH crew, many will retire , take part time , go to short Haul or sadly fall off the perch over the next few years. The average age of the LH workforce is over 40 i think and many are already nearing retirement age. if a package came along in the next couple of years i would imagine a few hundred will go.

the future is all yours and it will be great to have someone to hand it to in AUstralia other than SH or overseas bases..

paxing, you are absolutely dreaming. Conditions never improve, they just keep getting cut back as we accept the 3% every EBA with the offsets.

callbutton, the novelty will wear off in less than 3-5 years and the QCCA crew will arc up and there will be friction because of the b scale. Be rest assured. I do agree with you. There will be massive issues with crew working relations.

Flying based on Base

Hi guys,

Would anyone currently in Long Haul Melbourne or in the know be able to tell me the destinations which Melbourne crew currently operate for QF Long Haul. Just trying to get an idea which bases are responsible for which destinations.

Thanks

Jetsetter00,
In BP 256 which starts on Monday, the majority of trips are comprised as follows:
3 day AKL, 3 and 4 day HKG, 4 day LAX, 3,4,5,7 & 8 day NRT, 4 day PVG, 3 day SIN, and plenty of 1 and 2 day PER transits.

Expect to do a lot of PER transits, especially the red eye, and 3 day SIN.

The melbourne base is in a transition stage atm, the Company have always needed to significantly grow the base to make it effective but the cost of LH has made recruitment impossible over the last few years and until recently it was going to be closed.

Now with QCCA they can grow the base in a cost effective way and they are planning to almost double its size. There will also be an A380 Base in melbourne and they will fly to Los Angeles and Singapore at this stage. A380 is still up in the air during its start up phase but i would imagine that the melbourne base crew will be offered an opportunity to fly A380 within 12 mths of start up when the Melb/LAx flying is established.

The 747-300 are being retired and its hard to know whether the perth returns will go back to Short Haul if flown by the A330...i would think that if its 747-400 then it will obviously be LH crew but A330 is hard to say who qantas will use.

I think that the MEL/SIN/LHR may be flown by the Melb base crew depending on where the A380 flies, and the other destinations mentioned above are also correct.

Those are just a few musings based on some info floating around in the ether at the moment

please explain

well, I must admit the last few postings have been a wealth of info re destinations, but never having worked L/H could somebody please jot down a list of Port Designator Codes (with full names)
I'm fine with the more common codes like LAX and BKK but there are quite a few in there I'm trying to guess.

Thanks guys,
(sorry about my ignorance)

current jetstar crew

I am currently crew for jetstar. based on the previous posts, i am under the assumption that no one from Jetstar has been offered a position. Is this true? Does anyone know any jetstar crew that has been offered a position with QFCCA?

Clearly this is not fair...is it even legal? i know that they are technically the same company when it suits.....

Allowances

Hi everyone, I start training with QCCA in March. Just wondering if anyone knows what the allowances are like on these trips based out of Melbourne?

3 day AKL
3 and 4 day HKG
4 day LAX
3,4,5,7 & 8 day NRT
4 day PVG
3 day SIN
1 and 2 day PER transits.

Thanks.

QFLHFA

We dont post info re allowances on public forums simply because the public often takes them out of context and draws unfair conclusions about them. Suffice to say the average allowances are between 11k and 20k pa for a current LH flight attendant

QFLHFA,
what Pegasus747 posted is not really accurate for the MEL base at the moment.
A roster full of PER transits will attract no allowances at all.
This might change, but initially I would not count on much.
