Had my QCCA recrtuiment day!

Had my recruitment day on Friday 18 Jan in SYD. We were about 60+ and all nervous....
The QF staff were very friendly and wanted the day to be relaxed and fun.It was a good (long) day. We started with document checks, coffee/tea and general chatting amongst the hopefuls. We were then assigned a table number. First we had a group excersice and an assesor was observing us and writing it all down. After this we had a role play scenario and again an assesor wrote it all down whilst you acted your role out with another assesor.
After this we had a lunch break. Durning this break they sent a text to either advise you if you were succesfull and would proceed to a panel interview or unsuccesfull.
I was very lucky and got thru to panel interview. We were 22 who got thru!!!
The panel interview was the hardest. I think it all went Ok but in the end you do not know what they are looking for. My tip to evrybody attending is BE YOURSELF and HONEST.....Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They said we would hear in about 2 weeks. Anybody have any idea when you would start if you get accepted????

Petriboy,

You process was exactly the same and i too got to the same stage as you. Now we just wait. Congrats on getting that far because out off all the applicants only a third of my group got through also. Did they happen to mention how we will be contacted - such as phone? email? etc......

Goodluck to all who got to that stage and hope to see you up in the sky soon.

Thanx skychild.Lets hope we that we are up in the sky working for QF soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, they did not mention how they would contact us. I did not have all my necessary docs with me so it will give me a good excuse to call them in a week. Will let you know what they say.
I am thrilled that we have got this far. The recruitment process is going full steam ahead as QCCA has another 5 recruitment days starting Monday 21 Jan 08, that is every single day this week.
I am unsure how they will make their final selection. Maybe only a total of 10 new recruits will be selected from each day???God I wish we are 2 of those!!!!!!
I think the money will be ok upto 60K with allowances and remember a big part of it is tax free!!!!!!! Keep in touch and let me know when you hear!
Cheers

I'd be conservative and say it's only likely to be up to $50K INCLUDING overnight allowances...remember that the base is only $33K, and block hour payment will average about $250 per month...

Yes they would, but it depends on how Qantas classifies your relationship...

For example...

If you're not in a defacto relationship (living together for a certain period of time...I think it's 12 months, verified by a lease agreement, etc), then you can put them down (or anyone in fact) as a TRAVEL COMPANION.

If you are in a defacto relationship, as outlined above, then they are considered your DOMESTIC PARTNER, subject to you 'proving' you've been in a relationship that qualifies this definition. No different to anyone proving similar status, or even marriage, as you need to provide documentary proof in all cases (except when nominating someone for TRAVEL COMPANION).

Does that help?

Mr Seatback2.

You seem to have alot of answers for everything, are you already or have you ever worked for the QF group before?

I know the first Sydney ground school for QCCA is starting on Monday morning as I have some MAM friends in it. Well the entire school is ex MAM actually.

Do you know when they are looking at starting the first ground school for us external applicants? Should we be successful that is........

You could say I've been there, done that as it were...

First ground school for externals is scheduled (currently) in the next 3-4 weeks...subject to security clearances, national criminal history checks, etc. Lots of uncertainty at the moment, because it's quiet a big exercise. None of the recruitment types have been able to give exact dates at this stage.

As for rosters, well, here's how it will work...

As the QCCA crew come online, and because they won't have seniority or bidding rights, they will be allocated rosters AFTER all other Long Haul crew have bidded for their flying.

This means, hypothetically, QCCA crew will be given the leftovers/crap flying that the rest of Long Haul won't want to do.

It's far too early to say what will be a standard roster, as QF are progressively transferring the Asian Regional flights BACK OVER to Long Haul, over the coming months. Destinations/trips are anyone's guess because it will effectively be 6 months between this and when...

...The A380 arrives...

Again, no one from QCCA know what will happen with being able to transfer over to the A380 (how/when it will happen, etc)...I imagine they're still just coming to terms with this big recruitment and training drive...

A380 flying will be more predictable, in that it will be route specific (high volume routes like SYD-LAX, etc)...subject to any changes between now and THEN of course.

Rosters will be allocated on a 'fair share' basis...we can only assume what that looks like. Standby periods within the roster could mean you get a few 'lucrative' or high-demand trips every now and then...but that's theoretically, of course.

When you say standby. Don't tell me that part of your hours will be sitting in reserve in your uniform ready to go. I thought they would d give you a roster and you know exactly where and when you would fly. Maybe ( I hope ) I misunderstood you.
let me know???

as far as I'm aware, successful crew are recieving a phone call advising and unsuccessful crews are recieving an SMS telling them to check their email.

I know a fair few people have been applying for interviews and apparently the first 500 fulltime long haul crew will be internal applicants from MAM/Jetconnect. The interviews are being conducted over the next month.

I can say that I know more people are being knocked back rather than accepted for the position at the present moment. Hope that helps!

Tips

Think like a flight attendant in your interview.
Know what Cabin Crew do.Dont guess
Research Qantas.Have a good working knowledge of the business.
Know your customer service strengths.Know your weaknesses.
What is the most important personal asset a Flight attendant can have?
How does a team work.?
Have you worked shiftwork before?.If not, how will you adapt?
Display your listening skills.Don't gush
How do you cope with stress?
Your grooming must be outstanding.Business dress is mandatory.
If you are male wear a tie.If you are female wear your hair up.
No bling
