young Pilot Joining Qantas
Hows goin fellow wingers.
Me nephew is looking to join Qantas hes 22 with 900hrs single but the problem is hes asking me for my opinion about it = I need your(ppruners) help!
Any current, prospective S/Os currently working at Qantas that wouldnt mind sharing their expiriences or expectations etc. also any F/Os that wouldnt mind sharing.I would be very thankfull for any info.
An old fella like my self hasnt been in "the know" for quite some time now especially being based in Singapore.
Whats troubling him is that he doesntt want to live in Oz forever but Qantas being a very career type airline it would make it very unrewarding to leave in the future.Any chance that Qantas will be opening overseas bases for Pilots in the future, with all the 87s and 380s coming id think it would seem pretty obvious.
Thank you
regards

If your friend does not mind not flying the plane during the landing or take off phases of flight for a few years then go for it. If he is a stick & rudder pilot he will not enjoy the experience and should stick to GA with the real flying.
Financial benefits are good although as a S/O you ain't going to get first pick of bases. Qantas works of seniority so you will have to work many years and wait you're turn before getting bases that you want unless you get lucky along the way.

There was talk of a SIngapore base a few years ago but it's all gone very quiet.
There's not much prospect of bases with QANTAS in the forseeable future - but the pilots would be the last to know.
There is a chance within the QANTAS group to move to Jetstar Asia or possibly Vietnam depending what happens with Pacific and QF's involvement. I wouldn't hang your hat on it though.
If he's serious with QF, the worst that could happen is he's going to be stuck in the best country on earth. Just ask all those who wish they back here currently living in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong.....or any other 3rd world s%^thole you'd care to name.
