I am a graduate of the Sharp Airlines traineeship, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, you have to train in hamilton, and there is some very hard work involved but you make some great mates and are trained to a very high standard. The metros have only just been brought on and no trainees have completed a full year on them yet, but a ballpark figure would be maybe 3-400 hours right hand seat. I'm sure the company could give you a more accurate estimate if you talk to them. Just be prepared to put some hard work in and you'll get some great experience and friends out of it! Thats my opinion, hope it helps you out a bit. Let me know if you need anything else.

I heard a rumor that sport is a big part of working for sharp aviation? Any truth to that? Would they still give you a chance if you were not into playing sports?

smoby,
It's not so much that you need to be at vfl level of footy or anything like that, just maybe enjoy a kick every now and then. I simply played a bit of soccer at school and go for a surf every now and then, and got along fine with the airline. I'm not sure why they say its a requirement, i was never told, it may just be the social aspect of it.

Well that sounds good. I don't mind having a go at some backyard cricket. Does anyone know how long their interview process takes?

sharp as a...

Hey Smoby;

Let you know in a little while...I'm heading that way shortly. interesting posts by the way guys...Thanks for your feedback.

Laser shot...where are you now? Was it an advantage to have F/O time in finding your next job? what happened at the end of your training phase of the cadetship? when do you start (paid) work for them?

Could anyone else answer how Sharp compares to Jetflite in QLD?

cheers

PL

With the sport thing, during my interview i was explained that it was for the social aspects of things. I am heavily into the outdoors, currently studying my 1st year in NZ doing Outdoor Ed, but making the change.

Hey, I've seen them operate out of Essendon and look like a really professional outfit. And nice uniforms as well; a nice change from the traditional pilot's uniform with no w@nker bars. Are the check-in staff and baggage handlers their pilot cadets? It's a nice way to get into the industry, IMHO.

W@@@nker Bars

Personally I have never seen the big issue with bars that pilots wear.

In fact I find it quite disgusting that some people have this opinion of them.

They are a symbol of the hard work, time and effort that has been put in to making a pilots career. A little recognition of that effort is nothing to sneeze at.

If you are not proud of your profession you are in the wrong one.

Only W@nk3rs wear w@@nker bars.
