Anyone lose a window?
"A light plane was forced to return to Essendon Airport, in Melbourne's north, after glass from its emergency exit window fell out.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) says police found the glass in one piece on a soccer field at Bundoora, more than five kilometres away.
CASA spokesman Peter Gibson says the pilot flew back to the airport as soon as the glass disappeared.
He says it is an unusual incident which will be investigated.
"For a window or a door to fall off an aircraft is very unusual," he said.
"Obviously there are lots of maintenance checks done on aircraft - big and small - but things of course occasionally do go wrong.
"We will now have to work out why it happened in this case." "
Anyone have more info? Aircraft type?

once piece! that's pretty amazing I thought an emergency exit window was suppose to allow you to be able to break it in an emergency to exit the A/C? I would have hated to break that particular piece of glass in an emergency!!

I cannot remember seeing glass used for a cabin window! TimmyB, I have never seen a break glass to exit window on an aircraft. I think you should stick with a bus!
Racwa lost a storm window on their twin about 5 years ago. Except that was reported as ''family will never let kids play outside under flightpath again due to aircraft falling apart!''
The RAAF dropped a sonarbouy through someones loungeroom while they were watching tv a few years ago.

Hi Bras person
The "storm window" was in fact an emergency exit window (second row right hand side) from the RACWA Partenavia. Nice little lever just under the window for the pax to play with in flight.
Agree about the comments to Timmy, but after the ill informed comments by Mr Gibson and the article in the paper about a "GLASS" window, its really par for the course.
But for the all time classic drop, remember the AIM 7 Sparrow missile that came off a Hornet in Darwin. Sure killed the Land Cruiser that it hit.

Just proves you shouldn't watch TV whilst flying a plane.
PS. Sonobuoy

Richo, believe that was in Katherine, and it was only a Dummy missile (can sometimes think of some people they should put in place of those Dummy missiles, ).
But yeah, old mate certainly did loose his trusty old Toyota Landcruiser Ute, .

Not that long ago along the Perth coastline, a rear window came out of a light single and found its way in someones backyard.
I think that incident was caused by aerobatic manoeuvres - the aircraft as such wasn't rated for it.

It's raining ....
I assume the pilot quickly revised his/her landing weight based on a revised ZFW. Maybe they thought that an MEL means whenever possible - minimise your equipment

Nup. Richo has it right. Yes it was inert but it was real(ish). And the guy who owned the cruiser tried to sue the RAAF for ages, leaving the badly dented vehicle in his front yard to push the point.
Dunno how it ended.

Hey I was half right, it was a dummy missile, .
Yeah, just googled it and found it was Darwin, .

I once helped someone rebuild a Super Cub (after the CFI flipped it onto it's back demonstrating a short field landing with a tailwind).
The owner couldn't be bothered to wait for a new sliding side window so cut a piece of perspex himself. It was too small, bowed into the airflow and disapeared at about 2000 feet. Never did find it.
