Aviator Magazine?

Greetings,

Just noticed (what I believe to be) a new Australian avaition magazine entitled "Aviator" at the local newie. Is this new or an old mag renamed? I notice on the inside cover the head office is in West Oz. Can anyone advise how long it has been in publication? If it is a west ozzie publication, I doubt it would make it east very often.

On first glance it looks good and in the same format as Aero Oz but caters for the GA and students/wannabe's.

Any thoughts, info ,websites would be appreciated.

Thanks

Read a copy of that the other day for the first time. Looks pretty good, and considerably less typographical errors than Australian Flying.

A fair portion of the contributing writers are Victorian, and chatting with one of said authors over the weekend revealed the magazine has been around about six months. Is a brand new one - and certainly available in newsagents here in Vic, so I guess the rest of the east coast as well

If its a makeover is surely a good one - unrecogniseable.

Did that Tarmac mag actually make general distribution, or was it just an Aero Club local publication?

Possible corection

I am not sure which edition you have but the one I have is a little samey,
as in the article on former COE of Mooney Gretchan Jahn on page 7 was soooo good it appears again on page 8. There are immages from the article on pages 42/43 that were not included, and a couple of other clangers I cannot quickly put my hands on.
At least AF only seems to get the captions wrong.

Just My thoughts,

Cheers,
Solocmv.

Laso - That would be "fewer" errors wouldn't it?

I did hear "fewer than 45%" the other day which is the first time I have picked up that error in reverse!

I must say though - I would never shoot the author. I have only written for one well known aviation magazine, and being quite meticulous about my (ab)use of the English langauge spent a great deal of time tweaking each and every 2000+ words for maximum effect and accuracy.

One week later, I was sent back the draft in .pdf form and not informed of small editorial changes in the text. A cursory inspection showed all was well and I was impressed with the layout, so I sent it back. To my horror I found later that there were minor editorial changes that caused major inaccuracies in the text.

These errors were insignificant enough that only people familiar with the story would pick them and would know the truth, but they are the people that know me, what I do and would say that I should know better!

Having been an English as a Second Language teacher for many moons, I don't see how " less errors " is actually wrong. Likewise, " fewer than 45% " is OK when the number in question is a countable amount, ie, 'fewer than 45% of the people were actually wearing shoes".

"Less" and "fewer" are perfectly interchangeable in that situation, and every example sentence I can come up with.
