c208

Just a quick query:
Would anyone be able to tell me what is required in getting an initial turbine endorsement and in particular a c208 end.? Also would anyone be able too tell me if there is any place in perth/jandakot that does them?

A very difficult exercise. can be done though, provided you have a certain amount of hours (for the insurance company requirements on the aircraft hire).
try the Royal aeroclub. in particular Werner Buhlman.
It might even be worth giving Clark a call at Polar aviation in Port Hedland.

Don't go starting a new trend of paying for a caravan endorsement Everyone I know that is flying them (and its quite a few) has recieved an endoresment though their employer.... we don't need more people buying a job in GA. Its a pilots market at the moment just apply for the job, if you are right for the job then they should provide the training.

yup.....right up until the guy in front of you applies for the job, and he has the endo...... then suddenly your not as right for the job as he is.
Don't buy a job, but certainly give yourself a professional advantage in the job market. There are more ad's than not, that state quite plainly that unless your endorsed, don't bother applying. A shame to not be able to apply for a position that your otherwise qualified for.

I do understand the logic behind not buying an endorsement. But in response to Wiz how does one become more professsionally advanced within the job market with limited experience.

I see your point wiz, the only problem is that the rich kids get all the jobs and the poor stay poor and flightless (but thats just life i suppose), if you put in the hard yards (like i and alot of my mates did) then it will all pay off, I never had to pay for mine, but i had a lot more than 1000hrs when i got onto the van. I'm a strong advocate for just paying for your CPL ME/CIR then venture off into the workforce and the good ones go along way and the others don't survival of the fittest, not the richest

by getting more experience

Sorry, i do understand the problem, i just hate to see people sell themselves out just to get a job.... Just remember a caravan job is a great job, but it is not a great stepping stone to the airlines, most of the guy's i know that fly them have made a career out of flying them. IMOH only fly 208's if you love flying 206's but want a smooth, quiet ride with an aircon. If thats the kind of job you are after then chase it with all your heart(you'll love it), if you would rather fly a 767 then chase a job in a PA 31, c402 or similar, sure lots will disagree, but thats just how i see it, good luck

Caravans are a waste of time if you want to progress period. Even the RFDS doesn't recognise the time and they operate singles

Well, there is that aspect to being employed in the GA industry. some of us are lifers. Not that we couldn't make it to the airlines, but some of us have chosen not to go on to that part of aviation.
all this "not being recognized by the airlines" rubbish, is just that. rubbish. do they recognize 172, 206, 207, 210, Ect time in the big scheme of things?, or is it a general rounding of experience they look for?. Who cares if they recognize it or not?. its a far nicer machine to be floating around the Kimberly's in than a worn out 210, 206. gotta love the smooth engine, generally better avionics and air conditioning........... I know I did. Probably the safest I've ever felt flying in the dark around thundery's. certainly better than all of the 30+ year old buckets I've endured, singles and twins.
and as for survival of the fittest....... thats bunk as well. survival is just that, and if its a survival situation, your gunna do whatever it takes to come out on top. Its far to late to take the moral high ground. you take your 3500 hrs and no endorsement, and apply for a job with an operator that requires a van driver against a 1000hr endorsed driver, and I'll lay money on who gets the job. Believe me, I've seen it happen repeatedly.

Getting down from my soap box If your going to buy an endoresment and you want to fly for the airlines, or want to fly anything bigger than the van.

Caravans are a waste of time if you want to progress period. Even the RFDS doesn't recognise the time and they operate singles
Spend the money on a multi, maybe spend a bit more on a conquest or similar, it would be more expensive, but if your going to buy a job, might as well buy the one you want.... But if, like i said earlier you would like to fly a nice comfortable machine,
some of us are lifers
and you have no intentions of the airlines, then i would highly recommend a job driving the van, they are a pleasure to steer.

do they recognize 172, 206, 207, 210, Ect time in the big scheme of things?, or is it a general rounding of experience they look for?
Wiz, I don't think the airlines would care less if you never flew a c172/206, however if you never flew an IFR twin then you could have a problem.... Bit of a catch 22 i admit, its a bit hard to get a job in an IFR twin with no light single time, but by the time someone will employ you (insurance company will cover you) in a van you should be in you twin anyway.

ryan_vd, sorry for the thread drift, if you have no intention of the airlines then i would consider the c208 to give you an enjoyable and comfortable GA career, otherwise i'd steer clear its a sideways step.

I dunno about a sideways step. the van is slowly but surely becoming the 210 of the past, and is worth the time in your logbook. lets face it, a job is a job, and there aren't to many folk out there that take on a job based on what aircraft are being used. most operators that have them also have twins, and if you get to drive the van, chances are you'll also be driving the twins the operator has as well. If you decide to drive the van, you'll enjoy it. its a great ship.

ryan_vd, sorry for the thread drift
No Drama's at all trolleydriver! Its been informative.
I do think the challenge is being professionally advantage especially for someone in my shoes, who is looking for progression but unable to get experience because one doesnt have the required endorsements stipulated by companies.eg C208 end. and i do have just over 1000+ with the bare ratings with limited twin time
Keeping in mind that up till now Ive paid for all my licenses/ratings and so would have alot off other people, companies that mates are flying for at the top end of WA also require that they must buy there endorsement to progress within the company. Correct me if im wrong with my interruptation.
Just to clear it up, I would agree 100% that if my goal was the airlines I would be alot better off buying a more worthwhile endorsement as mentioned above or even fall for that perhaps money making cadet scheme ran by skippers.
I guess some one with limited experience would perhaps instead off paying for an endorsement bond themselves as indicated in other threads to a company. But I guess you'd need to word something like that carefully in a cover letter.

If you do some research you will find that there are companies that don’t require you to buy endorsements. I would try to get a job with one of these companies first. I think being on the spot is more valuable than holding a bare endorsement. A caravan endo is not cheap!!

Have the endorsement to get the job, but once you have the job, the company should foot the bill for further advancement within the company, or at least offer a bond system to allow advancement at no outlay to you.
Getting the job is the hard part though, and if you have the endo that the employer is looking for to land you the job, thats where you will be at the advantage over other applicants.
If your headed to airlines, your probably better off spending your money on your MECIR, and ATPL's or using the money to support yourself whilst studying for them, then applying for work at companies that will provide the advancement into types that the airlines feel will qualify you to apply to them. (barons and chieftains and other old clapped out thrashers are hardly relevant to airline quals). look at stuff like Metro's, B200's, B19's, Ect.
