Drug and Alcohol Testing
I know it's had some threads in the past but what are the future plans for drug and alcohol testing in Oz? Is it going to be a company responsibility? Connected in some way to ASIC renewals? Many rumours and not much substance about. Are management going to have to undergo the same testing? Is a zero tolerance up to individual companies or is it going to be legislated? What is the position of AFAP on this issue and other interested organisations. Sorry if I'm going over old ground, I looked about but couldn't find anything in recent threads.

A growth industry
Personally I try to test some alcohol every night, with a more rigorous schedule on Fridays and weekends.

Definitely better if testing is completed in company and although I have not seen it associated with ASIC renewals, it is often referred to around the time of upgrades, CIR renewals, and so on.
Drug testing is something I studied at university but I prefer to leave it to those who specialise in that field.
Hope this helps - I know it does for me.

Ha Ha Bendo – with you on that!!
Management will not be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Just as Police in Australia (or just QLD?) refuse to be drug and alcohol tested, there is only one thing to be concluded from that.

yawn .. anyone, including coppers, can refuse to submit to alcohol and or drug testing. Of course the legislative procedures in each state/territory mandate the force able to be used for 'assisted' compliance and the consequences of not complying are also contained therein. I guess that would also then go hand in hand with other company policy/procedures when in the 'unlikely' event such a thing would happen.
Bendo .. I'm surprised - not!

OK, apologies I was refering to the absence of everyday random drug & alcohol testing in the workplace as part of a work place policy. Coppers won't have a bar of it, considered unnecessary according to the Police Commisioner - over end of story - something to hide - no two ways about it. Now pull your head in Mr average aussie idiot while we & the Government ride rough shod all over you & you can't do a thing about it.
Pollies would argue the same, we all know they go out to lunch and get driven back ‘cos they are over the limit, but not apparently over the limit enough to make decisions about how the country is run.
On an aside, the point about the US & THEM. I remember very well, going back almost 13 – 14 yrs perhaps at a well known Gold Coast Casino an off duty police officer was caught stealing chips off a gaming table. The magistrate let him off with a warning, because we all (the public) fail to understand the pressuer the police are under, one shall never forget that.

Don't take drugs and make sure you have had adequate rest after drinking, how hard can it be?
I guess the only difficult bit will be peeing on command, WITH SOMEONE WATCHING...

I have no problems with being tested and have been in the past with no complaints. I am just interested in what protections will be in place, particularly if it is a company governed policy? What is the stance of our Proffesional Reps? I have seen in the past different outcomes applied to different people on this sort of policy for the same sort of breach.
