Red Bull Air Race In Australia??

Have you seen any of the ReD Bull Air Race events? I saw one on TV a number of months ago. They race around inflated pilons and do a sequence of aero routines. Held at various cities like: Dubai, Rotterdam, Budapest. About 6 or 7 aerobatic competitors. Looks like the equivelent of a Formula 1 event for aviation. Check their web page.

http://www.redbullairrace.com/

Very exciting!

What about forming a group to approach the organisers to bring this event to Australia. I am thinking Sydney or Melbourne would be great. They use a harbour type setting where the public can view the action.

I am keen to try to organise such a venture but need support.

I doubt if anyone in CASA has the balls to approve such an event. In fact I would venture to suggest there would an unholy racket of people hiding under desks or knocking all before them in effort to get out of A Woods House at the mere mention of such an event.

No doubt the OLC would also deem such an event to be illegal and against all and sundry sections of the Act, the CAR's and of course the CASR's. Then they would skulk around the photocopy machine trying to find out what the event actually was they had declared illegal

As far as I am concerned, please keep mentioning Red Bull as my nephew is part of the pit crew for the F1 race team and all publicity is good publicity.

its a shame that events such as the Red Bull air races, or similar have very little hope of ever being held in Oz..

but on a more positive note, i prey the release a DVD with all the highlights, interviews and technical footage similar to that on their website... that dvd if it ever becomes a reality will be one of my all time favourites.

ALL SO NEGATIVE!

I guess you are all just being realistic! True it is probably a dream to expect that such an event could come to OZ. I still say its worth a try for the sheer spectacle of it. Not to mention the increased profile for aviation.

Remember we have AVALON AIRSHOW as a reality. Such a venture would never have come about if organisers had listened to the pundits I am sure.

Yeah go for it mate the knockers and "It wont happen brigade on here" are so negative that they lose sight of anything that get's mentioned? It takes someone like you to get the ball rolling and do not worry the I told you so's will soon get on the bandwagon and take over for all the kudos.

I for one would like to see it happen here (we all have a bit of apprehension) but lets do it.!!!

It just needs a sponsor.
After that, everything that needs to happen, will happen.

I second Feather #3. Saw the race in Zeltweg, Austria i.e. the home of Red Bull. Its a fantastic concept.

It doesn't need sponsors - its Red Bull. I can't understand why such an event couldn't be held in Australia, go for it pall - sounds like the sort of thing Australians need to promote aviation!

Ignore the naysayers and find out the real facts of the matter.

The British CAA is EVERY bit as anal as CASA (More so IMHO) yet a red Bull race was held here recently. Didn't get to go, but apparently well attended and got some good press.

They don't do anything that wouldn't be covered by the low-level rating most top air-show and unlimited comp-aero guys do, so I'm sure it could come to AUS if the $$$ could be found.

RED BULL CONTACTED

I have emailed RED BULL AUSTRALIA to see what I can organise.

Thanks to those who have been so encouraging. I am more than a little enthusiastic about aviation matters, I guess you have noticed, so don't need much encouragement to go further with this idea.

I am sure that this must be a fantastic spectacle. Posts from those who have seen it 1st hand are helpful to generate interest and support.

It would be fantastic to see this spectacle in Oz. I think Albert park lake would be a good venue as well. It's not only CASA, but Insurance companies will be reluctant to back it. Not to mention the environmental impact study and community consultation over a 12 month period that DOTARS (the real enermy) will force them to undertake.

Would definately go, but I think a trip to the Northern hemisphere will be the only way possible.

Clearly, holding the event over a built up area is going to increase the risk, but it doesn't have be so. It can be held over water, over an airfield wherever.

Ignore the negative-vibe merchants and the red herrings about EISs and insurance companies not supporting it. It is a professionally run event, flown by professionals. Better to get the facts before giving it the thumbs down.

Cool

There was a pylon race held at Redcliffe in '84 as part of an air show. It was a handicap race over a triangular course (boats in the bay with spotters), with speed trials held the days before.
The finish was spectacular for the public with all contestants on the final leg down the runway. The 'race' was won by a Mooney, but those in the know reckon he fudged his time trials.
The deal was fairly tightly controlled by DCA, DOT or whoever at the time, but the event TOOK PLACE!
Maybe the same approval people are still working there?!!
Go for it!

Maybe its something the Australian Aerobatic Club can get behind! There would be enough interest in that event from the aeros club, surely.

As a member of the club myself, i certainly would push hard for it to come down under!!

Have been watching keenly on TV, and those guys are incredible! Would love to give it a go!!

RE Aerobatic Club Involvement.

PS2A_yay!,

Great idea. I will approach the club further down the track. Do they have a web page?

No email reply from Red Bull yet. I will try to contact them again via another avennue. Will keep you (and others) informed via pprune.

Pall,

Great idea, keep on it. Holding the event on private property will illeviate most of the CASA low flying probs and some of the insurance woes.

Lyndsay Fox owns YMAV and is a motorsport fanatic. See how you go. Damn Jet* going in there may interrupt things though.

The over water idea is a good one also.

Good luck, the support will follow.

Cheers,

Contract Con

There are indeed one or two loose ends but I doubt whether the aerobatic club itself would be interested in organising an event like that.
Red Bull is more of a circus for the public. The aerobatic club typically organises events just for its own members. The club might not want to risk its funds on organising an airshow.
