its going to be a very light 747! one not capable of international flight!..... fuel=weight.

where are they going to extend the runway too? across the georges? or into the Industrial area?

cobber74 from Perth??

Not a bad idea as it would save the trip to Mascot, but the new freeway makes that fairly painless.

Please tell you're not yanking our chain (new PPRuNe phrase for wind up) and why. Seriously.

Need more than a runway extension, the PCN/ACN is not suitable for the runway, taxiways, or apron.

If we're light (~200 tonnes) we can get into a 2000 metre runway, but if we're heavy (~280 tonnes) 3000+ metres is highly desired.

I've landed on 07/25 in Sydney (2550 metres I think) at about 240 tonnes no probs, though medium autobrake as needed and so the brakes got a bit warm.

Doesnt Max the Axe own YSBK already? i belive there will be jets up to 737 size using bankstown in the near future, as a result of badgerys creek being voted down, but 747's hmmmm. i dont see it. if they move domestic ops to bankstown, that will free up a lot more slots at YSSY for 747 and larger.

Ummmm...I'm not sure but I didn't think so.

Bankstown, Camden and Hoxton Park all appear to be held independent of Macquarie Airports, although it's a bit hard to tell who ultimately owns what.

Bankstown Corporate Info

I guess if it allows SYD greater access for higher yield customers (read International) Max will be happy to see some additional capacity elsewhere. Otherwise, look out!!

If RWY Centre is being extended and widened, I guess that'll be the end of RWYs Left and Right. Sounds like training will be a thing of the past, in the not too distant future...

The southern runway which is primarily used for circuits is already earmarked for closure. Runway 18/36 has already been decommissioned.

The above has/will occure/d because they want to entice more non-aviation businesses to the area.

yep, its sad. YSBK being reduced to 1 runway, or 2 , Runway Centre has been upgraded to take a 737, and the northern runway. the rest will be developed into shopping centres.

YHOX (Hoxton Park) to be closed, so they can build houses right next to a new Motorway, that will produce twice as much noise than the current 1 runway, and the motorway will carry traffic 24hrs a day!

no, there is no demise of GA in Oz!

but the people of western sydney got what they wanted, No airport at badgerys creek! just a lot bigger and noiser jets on domestic RPT into Bankstown..... to free up slots at Kinsford smith.

18 Wheeler,

How sprightly are 747s at very low weights, ie fuel to MEL and no freight or pax? The other night i was on the intersection of Kilo and Alpha taxiways at YSSY. Watched an Atlas Air 747-400F depart on 16R. He was airborne about the 07/25 intersection and his climb gradient was impressive to say the least.

Oh yes, of course. So let me get this right. By bring 737s into YSBK, they'll actually be encouraging non-aviation businesses?

Hmmm... I'll bet the local residents will be best pleased by this development...

Very sprightly indeed!
I have often gone from SYD to MEL empty in the 747-200 frieghter and as you wrote above we're airborne around the intersection.
We hold around 20° nose-up to keep the speed back to about V2+10, and do that to 3,000'.
The ROC is around 5,000 fpm I think, and that's with full derate.
Quite a lot of fun to fly when down around the 200 tonne mark.

Just to stop this rubbish and try and give a bit more credibility to Pprune (if that can ever be achieved with idiots outweighing genuine aviators)

The release of the plan -
http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/c...N065.asp?ID=29

* No change to the design aircraft - which means no larger aircraft than
currently operate at Bankstown

The Q&A on the plan -
http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/c...N065.asp?ID=30

Q. Will large jets be operating from Bankstown Airport ?
A. NO. Bankstown Airport will only be able to handle smaller passenger aircraft. Boeing 737 and similar aircraft are too big to use Bankstown Airport.

The plan is accepted -
http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/c...N065.asp?ID=36

“Bankstown Airport is pleased the Draft Master Plan has been approved with the Minister Anderson acknowledging the extensive public consultation undertaken by the Airport in preparing the Draft Master Plan,” said Mr Kim Ellis, Chief Executive Officer, BAC Airports.

I wish people would do the appropriate due diligence before posting so many can benefit from reading posts - I ask the question how do you know you have a moderator when you have one?

Part of the reason for the BK runway extension is to accomodate the space shuttle. Don't laugh, sydney is actually an emergency runway for the shuttle, so bk will be used just incase major tom over or undershoots..........
