Actually, it's all THREE copies....

Balus: The Aeroplane in Papua New Guinea. 3 vols. complete and all published. (Vol. I: The Early Years; Vol. II: The Rise of Talair; Vol. III: Wings of a Nation).

by SINCLAIR, James.

A bargain..... unless you already own a couple!

Shopping around:

BALUS . The Aeroplane in Papua New Guinea .Three Volumes
James : SINCLAIR
Price: AUD$1,627.29
Discounted By 25% To: AUD$1,220.47
Total Incl. Freight: AUD$1,224.17

So when the kids want you to leave Balus in your will, they're not history buffs!

The Balus Books

I have the first two of James Sinclair's Balus books and have recently unearthed a a copy of Sepik Pilot signed by Bobby Gibbes. You don't realise at at the time you get them what collector's items they are destined to become.

P2-PNB went to VH-AMH in 1994, then to VH-WNT, and was sold to USA in 1998 as N53EC. Still on the FAA register.

P2 WDL

Hi, I have about 6 hours in P2 WDL in September 1977!!!! Used it to visit Fullerborn in ENB and Gasmata.

Great plane, Fullerboirn was totally covered in slippery moss, most entertaining arrival!!! It only stops raining there, to change wind direction to rain from that direction!!!

Retired to Beachmere in Qld and still flying occasionally!

Wings of Gold and Balus 1, 2 & 3.

Hi , I have all the above leather bound versions and as there was a limited run of 100 of each one, they are numbered 1 to 100. I have no 81` in all 4 delightful volumes. Even Jim was very surprised!! Mine are signed, by Michael Leahy, Berty Heath, Gibbsey, Sir Norman Brearly, dozens of Crowley, talair. Macair pilots and Engineers. I would be proud to display at any PNG aviation event in Qld.

John Leahy passed away on Tuesday 15 January 2013 aged 66 years. John was the youngest of the Leahy family that included Sir Danny Leahy and Tom Leahy both deceased and Paddy Leahy, all nephews of the original pioneers, Mick, Jim and Dan Leahy.

Thumbs up Great Talair and PNG footage

Check this out.

Its the first episode of 'Diamonds In The Sky', a BBC documentary from 1979

Fascinating footage from 34 years ago. Lots of Twotters, Islanders, 402s, PX B707, Junkers, ass grass, susu meri and 'banara bilong oliman'.

Plenty of old PNG characters feature in this documentary. Minson Peni, Heli Schushnig, Ian Leslie, Micheal Somare and many more.

Anyone else got other video to recommend?
