Vulnerable pilots Vs. DN Aussie battlers

In all posts about Dn operators l constantly here same recurring topic of "I give people a go", "Start young girls/guys careers" and you know the rest...
Yes good and well, congratulations!
Most people move on and contemplate the great times they had in Darwin and mostly that they stilll have there LIFE!

Reality of the career, is that you are lucky to leave the Top End with your LIFE!

As pilots we are good at rumours amongst ourselves but infrequently speak to the authorities through fear and repercussions.

To many people l know have been scared by experiences that have occured in Darwin.

We all say we can handle it because we have to appear toughened from our experiences.

We become accustomed to excepting second best....

People have had great times in Darwin, Drinking down Mitchell, the markets, fishing, the weather and even flying when the mind is not thinking about the loose skins on the plane, the dodgy sticky throttle, the radio crackling, the spongy left brake, the dirty toilets or hangar floor, the engine that uses more oil than fuel, the next slab you have to buy, the dodgy electrical wiring underneath your legs, should l sign that fault in the release and ground the plane and my income till another time bomb is delivered or the service station which maintains the nearly 30 year old aircraft.

Tip for aircraft operators to sell your dodgy plane, give it a respray and interior job and the plane will not only be worth more but it will be 100 times safer?
And don't swear and say yous, chicks don't find it attractive!

Aussie battlers or fortunes being accumulated.... Individuals have made thamselves in aviation and size does not count but survivability.

Who will be at the next tribal council!

PS. Does anyone no where the driving range is l have seen a golf buggy driving around the south side?

Driving range is located between the light pole and dat tree...

They do get a little upset when you pull out the Driver though...

Swooping plovers are also a severe hazard...

Haven't been able to score the ultimate hole in1 though..... The targets keep moving

HEAT,
What engineering background do have to class ones a/c dodgy?
Does a repaint and interior make a a/c safer?Dont think soo!!!Do you know how much a refurb costs?A good respray for a 210 size single will set you back around 15 to 20 grand,Interior work useing a approved shop add another 5 grand.
Now you are free to fly with the seat belt out the door, the seat pockets full of rubish, empty oil bottles and dirty rags in the back.
Hey I like the idea of buying new a/c,A nice shiney caravan?or maybe a Airvan?Maybe your mummy and dady can buy you one

You probaly ride your brakes while taxing soo thats your spongy brake sorted,When was the last time you sighted all that dodgy wireing under your feet?
Loose skins!!!What the hell are you talking about here.
Crackling radio,Turn the squelch down or maybe clean you dodgy headset plugs.
Its probaly beneath you to clean your own skidmarks from the dunny bowl,Maybe next time you walk straight past the rubish on the floor bendover and pick it up.
To some up,Your a PILOT!!!!

Thankyou for your common responses, on the whole LAME's do an excellent job, work hard and endeavour to complete maintainance diligently.

I write this due to experiences through being in aviation and working hard to achieve the position l am in.

And mummy and Daddy are wonderful people and never supported me financially because l am a big boy now! They are on holidays at the moment, left there mansion for a few weeks to travel to the South of France for a bit of food, wine and culture!

Just bent over to pick up the toilet paper feels quite good brus maybe you mob should try it one day, bet you dream and talk about going 5th. base, l know l do!

I stress that pilots can be highly at fault in many incidents.
Such occurences l can recall overtime in the Top End are:

Loose skins- aircraft out of 100 hourly, ramp checked 2 days later, written up for loose skins top wing. missing screws, severe corrosion.

Sticky Throttle- Wriiten in MR, checked by LAME told may have frayed cable wait till next 100 hourly will check it then. Result 5 hours later land on idle try to taxi off runway, throttle jammed in idle, conclusion problem in carby not cable.

Radio- Crackling intermittent radio, Headset checked all clear, told needs new radio owner doesn't want to fix told what is the stress you have two.

Brakes- Master cylinder has to be taken out and checked , will do it at a later date.... still waiting.

Oil- Rubbish of empty oil bottles is because the planes use so much oil, planes have to carry a box for a day and are told it is exceptable.

Most of the incidents have occured with the same company in Dn, however most other LAME'S dealt with in the past are excellent and understand us geek pilots.

Maybe people are to busy, too much work not enough time or financial interests lay in each others pockets!

Hard for authorities to find out the crooks though, usually have to wait for hard evidence after a major incident.

Anyway better go happy days flying and repairing, we continue as we always have and try to pusue our professional hobby!

A percentage of employers will use the old you will fly this or it is your job routine. Due to past history many have got away with this. What we all have to decide is:
What are our own standards
What is an acceptable unservicability
what are we prepared to do to maintain our own standards,(min to maint, prefer improve on)
What is the airspeed of a fully laden swallow?
there are ways to do things and there are ways to kill yourself
you choose!
