FAA 737
If you already hold an FAA ATP then adding a type is easy. Find your self a FSDO make an appointment . take all your paperwork with you and thats pretty much it . now if you don't have an FAA ATP then its a whole different process.

Hi Canuck,
thanks for getting back. I was just in touch with the FAA in Oklahoma, I will have to pass a check ride in the SIM. I guess you are Canadian, there is a bilateral agreement between the US and Canada that provides mutual recognition of licenses and ratings. Unfortunatelly that does not apply to EASA licenses/ratings.

Not only will have to pass a checkride in a sim but there has to be a record of of ground and flight training given by "an authorized instructor" which means a FAA approved instructor. The Febuary 2015 FAA simulator list only shows two active 737 sims in Europe, both at Boeing UK in Crawley.

CAE Dubai has FAA approved simulators and examiners as well if you can make the trip. They have several instructors who are FAA/EASA approved. German Instructor/Examiner ( Dr.GS) is excellent. Also French Instructors/Examiners (RB & FE) are your best bet. See if your company will allow you to do your recurrent in Dubai. You can then add on the FAA type "short" course and do their checkride there. Dr. GS is now part-time (lives in Germany) and the others are full-time. I did my training and check with them a while ago. They are extremely knowledgeable and excellent trainers(and fair examiners) in contrast to the likes of Pan Am and some others. I guarantee you will learn something new!

Thanks guys for the answers.
@MarkerInbound
The sign off by an instructor was also what I read in the FAR's. I contacted Oklahoma FAA licensing branch and that was their answer:
"You must pass a practical test showing competence in pilot operations appropriate to the B-737 you do not have to complete approved course if you have met the requirements for flight experience.
Best Regards,
Airmen Certification Branch

@NGFellow:
Could you PM me the contact details of the German FAA examiner or the French examiner. Thank you very much.
