Yes, but it is easy to skip this forum, because not much seems to be discussed here.
And the monotony of always finding only British/Irish, Swiss, Icelandic or Middle East topics in Rumours and News (Reporting Points) or Terms & Endearment is so boring and repetitive, unless an American crew declares an emergency overseas, or their company is Chapter 11 over here. It is strange how much news appears on Pprune from areas with such a small fraction of the world's local and "domestic" flying.
And regarding past topics about the apparent bias against foreign pilots in the US is baloney-I've worked with and met numerous pilots who are from many countries, whether they fly the SF-240, CRJ, A-320 or whatever. A number were with a large flight school which "suddenly" went bankrupt.

Yes there are a few American pilots (and Former United) here.
I usually don't come to this forum because of time. No other reason.
Since I was looking for a job after voluntary/forced really retirement from UAL, I am at China Airlines in Taiwan and based in SFO (sort of) even though the flying is back and forth to North America mostly for me, I end up in Taipei a lot.
To answer the other suggestion about nationalities,etc., I ahve found no pilot prejudice other than the usual pilot egos<bfg>! People around the world are the same and managements and airlines around the world universally try to get pilots as cheaply as possible.
In Taiwan, I am surrounded by Aussies,Brits,and of course Taiwanese. Other than a few cultural differences and funny accents, it is easy to get around.

Jim-I've seen numerous EVA crews leaving a certain Newark hotel late at night for the long trip back to Taipei. Their pilots appear to be of various nationalities.
How do you like China Airlines? Are you flying the same type of 747 as you flew at United? I'm curious how long pilots can fly for any airline based in Taiwan. Eva is the private airline in Taiwan and smaller than CAL. It has many of the same expats as CAL. There are some at EVA that came to CAL supposedly for better pay. CAL actually pays reasonably well by many world standards and is expanding.
CAL has almost 50% of its 55 747-400s (or 744s as they call them) and is hiring and expanding in a good economy. EVA has more smaller airplanes.
The Taiwan givernment spreads out the flying between the 2 carriers when only one can have a route. CAL goes to JFK and EVA to EWR. EVA goes to London somewhere and CAL has ROME.
Since I like warm weather, Taiwain suits me well. It is overly warm in summer just like Florida,but most of the year it is fine.
CAL has some different ways compared to UAL. There are almost 50% Captains on the 744 and that helps the proficiency level and also allows them more flexibility in using Captains as Relief Pilots. So I am a bunkie about 1/3 of the time and still do walkarounds.
The pay is not that far from UAL pay now because of the 35% pay cut and another 10% (in my case) because the 400 pay is now equal to 777 pay at UAL.
All in all very happy,but gone from home too much.I would not recommend this for people with young kids or old parents. You could not run any second business from the U.S. in a job like this.
I am only guaranteed 8 days off in the U.S. and I am based in SFO. In the other 22, I spend about 8-10 in TPE and the rest flying. I get to ORD/BNA/MIA/LAX/SFO/JFK/YVR about 3 times per month

Don't get to browse this section much, coz I am based in the Far east.....
Being a very junior pilot I plan to stick around a bit longer in Asia till something solid comes up back home....(SWA, Alaska etc)

Just in case sombody is trying to get PC on me, the rubber kind is in reference to what the pax left on my plane (in various spots which is nowhere near the lavs) and not the pax themselves.
And I'm offended at myself.

Also in SF as a Multi-Comm-working-on-the-ATP-wannabe! Ultimately would like to be based out of SFO or OAK but will take what I can get for now. The obvious is Ameriflight or Sunset or such. Any suggestions?

Actually I did apply to Ameriflight when I was looking for a job last year. It was a Piper Lance PA32. I had owned a T-tail Lance before so I thought this would be a natural.
But they didn't take me! I was either overqualified or my parents were married(to each other).

Well,I go through SFO often on the way to RENO. Does that count?
Had to drive RNO-SFO the other day because all flights out of RNO to SFO/OAK/SJC all full.
This time of the year is the "fun" time in SFO. Lots of Pacific
fronts.
