Was wondering how many years it takes before getting command at Sterling.

Sterling will hire this year. They need pilots for the winter season. But it will cost you approx 250000 nok for the rating, and they will not guarante anything!!!

Just a short advice, land the job first, start thinking about time to command later... Rosters are (from 1st of Oct) 5-4-5-3 or variable, initial pay (incl flightpay) apx 32000dkk/mth. GL

Cheers

What the 'ell do you know about muffan, his age, his present position, his experience and his carreer so far, paperdragon? Time to command is definitely a relevant question when applying for a job as a pilot. Unless you are a 23 year old low-timer.

I got an e-mail from Sterling earlier this week, stating that they will not be doing any hiring this year.

Then again, it might be due to me already having the type printed on my little white slip!?

Well it depends primarily whether you are ex Maersk or "ex-Sterling".
Some guys from Maersk who started in 1998 are still FO's , and some guys from Sterling who started in 2004 are Captains........

OY

Ps: For all practical purposes you are probably looking at a min. of 5 yrs, but nobody can tell you for sure these days.........

Sterling plan to hire about 40 this year, they are not able to get that many for interviews at the moment. They might fire you if you fail the type rating course, if they dont need you when training is completed, or when your season contract has expired.

You might get hired with 600 SEP, but my friend have not been able to get an interview and he is type rated on the 737 (750 total SEP) . Sterling wants to make money on the type rating course, and they might train more people than they need to make some cash.

I think this is a poor deal, but go ahead if you can afford not to get hired after paying the type rating!!!
