Tonight, Ukrainian drones (reportedly over 30) targeted Russia's Morozovsk airbase, home to a number of Russian Air Force Su-30/34/35 strike aircraft.

Numerous explosions could be heard near the base, with smoke and flames also spotted rising nearby.

Before and after video comparison…

The aftermath of Ukraine's recent strike on Morozovsk air base in Russia is visible in new satellite imagery.

The base was last struck by Ukraine earlier this year in April.

The claimed deployment to Crimea is likely a response to the pledges of F16 entering the battlespace to put pressure on supplier governments including the US and also psychological pressure on Ukraine cambatants. In other words it is the same tactic of performance uncertainty to force calculation onto the side of caution, together with adding internal pressure to complicate and potentially delay training and donations of F16's from and European governments and the US permissions in the run up to the elections.

Then there is the issue of how many S500's Russia actually has. Probably less than a handfull. The system is undoubtedly expensive and like the su57 has no combat experience. Knowing that the S500 may be in theatre will make it a prime target for elimination.

Denys Davidov said three battalions of three systems per battalion and (probably ) eight launchers per system. He didn't know if they would send one battalion or all three to Crimea.

NK supplying Russia with ammunition and missiles.
Russian own production is currently 250k rounds monthly, so NK is providing almost two years worth of Russian production. Even if the NK shells would be 50% rubbish, that would still leave Russian forces with a years worth of production extra.

It is of outmost importance for the west to ramp up production AND provide long range weapons to halt the russian logistics.

I've played the most modern of VR headsets and games and you would be surprised at the control and fidelity you can achieve. Add to that muscle memory and being in the zone I can totally understand how this can be done.
It's definitely the new age of warfare.

MechEngr 14th June 2024 21:17

The cease fire proposal = coming back for the rest in a year or two. Putin cannot wait for 10 years like he did after Crimea.

Now that troop buildups on the Russian side of the border are no longer off-limits I expect more rapid progress by Ukraine.

The games I have played yes. Depth and height perception. Not sure how the drone vision looks as never tried that but if like the games then yes you get depth perception.

46h Brigade repels yesterdays Russian attack on the Mariinka front.

“On June 13, the paratroopers of the 46th brigade repelled the largest enemy assault during the entire period of their work on the Mariinka front! The enemy used in total of 28 units of AFVs in assault operations.

The results of the 13th turned out to be disappointing for the occupiers: our soldiers destroyed 13 units of armored vehicles, two dozens of Russians were killed, and 38 were injured”

At least the supply of irony is unlimited in Russia.

For VR they certainly can. For consumer drones, they are likely to have only a single camera so direct parallax 3D is unlikely. However, moving a bit side-to-side can give enough information to get relative distances, with overlap/occlusion being the final 3D vision clue.

From the reported videos of drone operations, they seem to simply use the "keep the target in the center" method of aiming as the weapons mainly have contact triggers and will detonate when it arrives.

In A word, Yes, you want to try MSFS with them, it’s spooky, the only problem is if you use a keyboard because you cannot see it, but with HOTAS that problem goes away, you can put your head through the side windows and look outside, if you get a chance try one in a shop, heck walking along a plank at the top of a multi storey is scary to try.

I am glad to see you back since I'd not "seen" you for a bit. As you are old I was afraid that maybe you had become dead; am most pleased that this is not the case.
There's another way to read this.
That they intend to ratchet it up to WMD (first gas...)
I am not sure, but that is one way to see the signal they are sending.
It also might be bluster.

Putin made first public ceasefire proposal to Ukraine/NATO1. must withdraw from Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhya and Kherson
2. Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO
3. Nuclear-free status of Ukraine
4. All sanctioned on Russia lifted
5. New territories and Crimea are forever with the Russian Federation
I think that this is called "an opening position" in a negotiation.
Remember how many years the Paris Peace Talks went on (over Viet Nam) and how many positions were offered and taken down?

(FWIW, have you ever been involved in a labor/management dispute? Similar tactics are used ...)

Kim Jr II'nd has been providing intel as to the parlous state of the NK "hordes" by providing presumably the best of the best of the best arty and rounds that NK can provide to it's fraternal mate, the dark lord of the Kremlin. What that has indicated is the ammunition fails to meet the exacting standards of the 2nd best army in Crimea, or even Belgorod. NK ammo is blowing out tubes by having excessive pressure, or inadequate pressure and sticking in the barrel. The exacting science of ballistics is turned to a parody of flinging the stuff at the fan in order to heft a payload of unknown effectiveness somewhere down range. It remains in keeping with the masterful strategy that has led Russia from being a go-to supplier of energy to Europe to a country that the ruble is currently slightly less than twice the value of a square of toilet tissue (not certain if that is single, double or triple ply... ).

It takes skill to convert a state oil company from a billion a day profit center to a loss making enterprise, and yet, that is what the dark lord has achieved. Perhaps Russia should have this guy as their king for then 4 terms to cement their future fully in the 7th Century, which seems to be where they are heading.

The overall impression of the achiements of Lord Lucas, (of darkness fame) is to add to NATO solidarity, to cause Armenia to withdraw from CSTO, to have the 'Stans declare the ruble non grata for any trade, and to remove around a trillion dollars directly in. Russian sovereign value, which setting up reparations of a larger amount from the wanton damage that has been bestowed as Russias gift of Mir on its neighbour. For Vlad, another day ending in the letter "Y".

Vlad's exit strategy is pretty simple, he has as much grass as he can eat in Pyongyang, and can always spend time in Teheran, its nice enough in Autumn and Spring, less so in Summer and Winter, but he can afford the aircon, after all, he singlehandedly took out Russia's future, that has to have let him squirrel away a bit for a rainy day.

The likelihood of Russia achieving foreign military sales on more than slightly used toilet paper is not enhanced by the showing of their S-300, S-400, T-90, SU-30, SU-34, SU-35... SU-57 nor their PDW capability of their naval products, which seem to have an affinity with ocean deeps. That a once feared nation has so effectively thrown away their commercial potential is quite remarkable, Vlad will certainly make the history books.

This conflict is reshaping the world in many ways, alliances that were on the precipice of being declared deceased have been replaced by the Moscow Stock exchange looking like a trajectory from the Tarpean rock, after a heavy feasting of borsch 'n swill. There are some sobering lessons to be learned from the sacrifice of a noble and courageous nation that have stood up to the bully that is the character of Russia, hopefully some adults are spending a lot of lamp oil doing the math and strategy reviews from the lessons to be learned from the actions of the dilettante would be tzar. Those lessons are hard earned, will we as a defence industry learn from them?

fdr, thanks, I've missed these eloquent rants. It is amazing to see how far Russia has fallen with this attempt at an empire grab. One can only hope there is continued support for Ukraine and a rePutiation of the attempt by his self to recreate a Soviet State. His 'offer' to negotiate a total win is perhaps an indication that he knows he's lost. Now is the time to totally support Ukraine. Putin could obviously achieve an end to the war by stopping his attacks; just stop and there will be peace. No one wants to take parts of Russia, although they could use a good old de-Nazification.

I am most impressed by his strong stomach, given the inherent delay between what his (simulated) 3D goggles tell him, as view of his input actions, whereas his vestibular brings him a third conflicting story.

Not quite:

Cattle rustler and horse thief Putin steals those verdant lands, and rebrands the cattle pasturing there.

Now with his neck on the line, faced with angry ranchers and the law, plus the jockeying of his own outlaw gang members, he needs to try and make it all stick firm. But will it stick?
