PSP? Thought that stood for Perforated Steel Plate, at least it did in my day, and it definitely wasn't that stuff. And I spoke as a mobility scooter user.
:hmm: |
Bee, Perforated Steel Plate it ain't. Pierced Steel (Airfield) Planking it is.
Offered only in a spirit of correctitude. ;) |
Thanks . . . in the spirit of OKitude.
:ok: |
I didn't get to drive on this PSP-like stuff but I thought it was a definite improvement on last year when my car came home with what seemed to be half Lincolnshire stuck to it. I agree, Bee; BZ, whoever thought of it. :ok:

Must point out it wasn't the major goverment that raped the TRSR2 securing it would never ever fly again.
Now that would be have been nice yesterday wouldn't it Mr Benn:* |
Forgot to give a special mention also to the people who ran the disabled electric buggy hire stand. Without them Madsmum definitely couldn't have gone so, probably, neither would I.
Many thanks to them for their services. |
I haven`t read any of this so feel free to tell me to f**k off.....
Waddington was all that could be expected under the conditions. As far as I`m concerned as a a punter, all of the crews did their best under the conditions. I only went to see the Vulcan; obviously it went tech but still did a taxi run, for an aircraft built in 1960 what can one expect? Thanks to all involved!!! |
PSP
The temporary roadway used at Wadders was aluminium trackway. The Army have big rolls of the stuff that is unrolled from the back of a flat bed truck. Don't know if what Wadders used was hired in or not, but when I came to leave at 1800 it had all been coned off. A large vertical wave had formed half way along it, making it U/S. Perhaps not pinned down correctly? Oops!

for an aircraft built in 1960 what can one expect? The entire USAF B-52 fleet. Oh no - they're from the '50s. :8 |
Just a quick thought, 558 was built in 1960? and is the only Vulcan flying in the world.
The B52 Stratofortress was built around the same time and the USAF have loads of em flying all over the place. |
Weren't the B-52s flying from 1952-ish?
I think they were designed in the mid-to-late 40s. I know they were accepted into the USAF in '54 or '55. I would Google it myself, but Google is sooo passé and I've got my street cred to think about. |
Slight thread drift - unfortunately wasn't at Waddo Sunday because of the Veterans day at Shawbury.
We were supposed to get a 558 flyby because of Jack Haywards presence, but of course it had to cancel. The Army Historic Flight cancelled because of weather. The BBMF Dak also cancelled because of weather. The Royal Navy Swordfish, which only flew for the first time in years earlier in the week, bimbled all the way from Yeolvilton to give us a superb display. Well done the Navy! |
The Royal Navy Swordfish, which only flew for the first time in years earlier in the week, bimbled all the way from Yeolvilton to give us a superb display. They can take the risk :E |
To be fair the Stringbag probably left Yeovilton on Saturday morning, when the wx was OK, for a Sunday ETA at Strawbs.
|
Kokpit,
In the pic of the GR4 is that a trick of the light or is the underside of the fuselage really glowing orange? http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...n/IMG_8052.jpg |
I'd say that the orange glow under the rear fuselage, is a reflection of the ground pyrotechnic explosions during the Role Demo Display. :ok:
|
Ummmmm! Seem to have seen that many times. It gets a bit 'hot' and makes the metal glow on the outside as well as the inside.
|
Yeah, I would have said that at first, but if you look under the wing tanks, they are glowing too.
Hope the temp in there isn't as high as in the tail pipes... :E |
It gets a bit 'hot' and makes the metal glow on the outside as well as the inside However, I must admit to a double take when I first saw the image, especially having worked Tonka for a number of years, thinking of an imminent burn through. But, as others have said, the reflection is also on the ext tanks, and the glow goes far further forward than does the hot section of the 199. Nevertheless, an interesting shot I thought. |
Despte the non perfect weather on saturday morning we had a great time. Once the sun come out all was well.
I am originaly from the Czech Republic and I was made to feel very welcome on the Czech airforce Ant 26 at the static display. If you are reading this many thanks for taking the time to show me round and take shelter during the morning shower. What was the weather like on sunday? Did the Vulcan display on sunday. Was the B52 supposed to do a display on sunday. Looked in great nick considering it was manufactured in 1960 according to the aircrew. Thanks again for a great show depite the overstrech and the non perfect am weather on saturday Peter |
