Waddington Airshow

Just had a look at the display programme for next week on the Airshow website.

Strikes me as thin in the extreme!! No large aircraft, no Harrier, very little NATO involvement..

RAF role demo......departures and recoveries...take offs and landings! Hardly counts as a display!

When the forces are stretched it is understandable that air displays take the back burner, however, it does generate a lot of PR and goodwill.

Not bad at all, given that there's a war or two on at the moment.....

CrazyMonkey 29th Jun 2008 17:18

Shady. What are you on? The line up looks awesome...I'm sure the public will love the show and enjoy the Role Demo (which has had rave reviews this year).

It should be a good show- weather permitting! Just watch for the hawks out-turning the Tonkas in the Role Demo dogfight... :ok:

No large aircraft... E-3D and B-52? How large do you want?!

Green Flash 29th Jun 2008 18:41

And the Pat Ags are at Waddo and not RIAT this year. Given that the Casa isn't exactly blessed with tons of power I think they are one of the best teams I've seen.:ok:

10enggone 29th Jun 2008 21:34

What more do you want?

Even the chance that the mighty Vulcan could fly + all the other demos think that even if the RAF wasn't so streched the only thing missing is the Harrier....probably prepping ready for an appearance on ITV1

Mobile Muppet 30th Jun 2008 01:01

No Hercs flying?

Green Flash 30th Jun 2008 08:58

Maybe Herc on the role demo? You know the scenario, Tonkas get everyones heads down, Albert TALO's, couple of WMIK's full of Rocks armed to the teeth + smoke out of the back, Herc reverses, Rocks back on board and a quick lurk over the far hedge. Oh, and try not to set fire to half the airfield either .....:eek::}

Compared to Cosford, the first official RAF show of the season and the only event of it's kind in the Midlands, Waddington has a stunning line-up.

RAF support at Cosford was very strong but very little thought seems to go in to the event other than that, certainly not in terms of improving the experience and freshening the event up year on year.

Hope the weather holds and the Vulcan makes it for everyone attending Waddo this weekend........

Not this year

From the Waddington website:

This year's show will contain a new updated and exciting Role Demonstration highlighting the RAF's devastating fire power. The 45 minute demonstrations will include Tornado GR4, F3, Hawk, Chinook, Apache and E3-D aircraft and will be supplemented by a fascinating recreation of a desert deployed operating base situated between 3 & 4 Hangars. Come along and see how the battle is planned and controlled and view the miriad of units that are required to put such an operation together.

Wensleydale 1st Jul 2008 06:36

If only the weather forecast supported the idea of a "desert deployed operating base" then we would be happy. As it is, the BBC 5 day guess reckons that it will be heavy rain again with a 13 knot easterly at 15 degrees! Not what I remember the desert to be....

Wellies On Again.

The role demo is part of the new media and comms strategy rolled out so successfully last year at Abindgon and Kinross.

Or did I miss something? :}

If you are looking at an airshow which is thin on the ground regarding aviation then take a look at Yeoviltons..... An embarrassment

Rain, Rain, Rain and some more rain:(

I wonder if the organisers have implemented any changes to avoid a repeat of last years fiasco.

Looking at weather.com Sunday is forecast to be even worse.

Civilian Aircraft - Flying
Avro Vulcan XH 558 - Vulcan to the Sky Trust
Hard to believe it's a civilian aircraft now.

exscribbler 1st Jul 2008 13:58

Look, I've got the message - it's going to p*ss down all Saturday and they'll cancel the flying display so I miss it two years in a row and you lot are going on Sunday when the sun will shine and all will be well.

Now can we discuss how poor it'll be when compared with the Battle of Britain Days in the 50s and 60s? I remember when Middleton St George was a Lightning OCU and...

Don't be such girls:

If it rains, go to the beer tent.
If it's sunny, go to the beer tent.
If your wife is going shopping in Lincoln, go to the beer tent.

Are you getting the message now?

See you all there, in the 44(Rhodesia) Sqn Assoc beer tent.
