I went on saturday and we had a great time. Ok the weather was a bit dodgy first thing but once the sun come out all was well.
Despite the overstretch thanks to all concearned for putting on a good show.

Lovely to see the Vulcan fly and we were impressed by the sight of the B52. was that supposed to do a display.

What was the weather like on sunday?

I am originaly from what is now the Czech Republic and would like to say a special thanks to the crew of the Czech Airforce An 26 which was on the static display. they made me feel very welcome and gave me a great tour of their aircraft and shelter from the shower in the morning. If you are reading this thanks lads!

No probs getting in or out . Arrived just after 8am and left around 4.30pm.

Thanks again to all involved in putting all together

Peter

I must own up to feeling a bit emotional after videoing her :-

Maybe the Vulcan Howl should be added to the list of sounds (Merlin/Griffon, Hunter Blue Note etc) that commentators should not talk over.

It fairly leaps into the air, what is the weight now compared with the in-service figure?

In the recent videos I have seen there is no Nav radar or Nav plotter.

That should reduce the weight considerably ;)

Would a file in a cake be a better bet?

Isn't the Vulcan at RIAT though?

The Mirage 2000 display was blistering. The Typhoon and Spitfire/Typhoon combo was also superb! A few snaps.

Stunning as usual :D

airsound 10th Jul 2008 20:35

Gainesy - she's now 4.5 tons lighter than she was.

And that's before you take into account the absence of two navs.

As David Thomas says on one of the Vulcan radio pieces - it all makes her a bit pokey.....

PS That's good stuff from The28Insider on YouTube. Congratulations.

PPS. yes, she should be at RIAT, late morning Saturday, late afternoon Sunday. Also at Farnborough, Fri, Sat, Sun.

It was dark, cold and wet, but the photographic opportunities were there:

The Mirage was the display of the day though:ok:

harrogate 10th Jul 2008 21:32

Found a reasonably good video of the Mirage on YouTube.

Just want to say a big "thank you" to everyone who has posted photos on this thread. Without exception, they are all bloody brilliant! Many, many thanks.

I don't recall seeing the Venom though - was that Sunday?

threeputt 11th Jul 2008 09:07

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but, that Venom is a Vampire T11.

3P:ok:

Some superb pics there - but for the love of all all things sacred.. whose idea was it to put a huge f*''king corporate branding logo underneath the RAF Roundel and squadron flashs?????

Its a sodding military jet folks - it is unlikely to be operated by Burtons, Top Shop or FCUK or whoever is putting Mod targets on their T-Shirts....

What that aircraft needs (following the 19Sqn Hawk repaint) is a grey-green uppers with some invasion stripes added, or if it is off somewhere hot and dusty, sand and dark brown and a nice set of sharks teeth...;)

Not 'Royal Air Force - we're not the Army you know' emblazoned on the ruddy side....

exscribbler 11th Jul 2008 12:24

Which begs the question as to why 800 and 801 are not allowed to have ROYAL NAVY on their Harriers.

It is generally accepted that Henry VIII founded the Royal Navy in 1509, so next year could see aircraft emblazoned with "Royal Navy - celebrating 500 years"... :E
