Cannot let this thread fall off the front page..............come on fisheads dont you want the last word???
The Freddie exchange at our place is getting some banter at the minute because of this....funny thing is since coming over to the light blue its amazing how much they have improved as a controller.....it must be really exciting doing PI's in the middle of the ocean.

Gentleman Aviator
I am confused...... if the RAF and its aviators (and aviatrices) are so "pants" (as I believe young people say these days), why can it be that more than 100 junior officer pilots in the RN and the Army are currently trying to to transfer to the RAF.
Which by an amazing coincidence is more than 100 more than those trying to transfer the other way (ie none). My aged eyes, vibrated over many years, may deceive, but I'm sure I saw an old RN helo mate even flying Alberts (in light blue) the other day.
Can't be the less-than sexy uniform (wot! no stiff collars?), or even the mythical 5* hotels (bona mates in boats - Fatal Berts in tents in the desert) - so why oh why?? I thought this thread might enlighten me. But it was not to be.............

TH,
Now I am worried If that many RN types are applying to join our band of most elite aviators I am going to have to ask for a "boxer short" allowance as I am probably going to have to start wearing at least two pairs if what has been posted so far
al la the "mano e mano" action being experianced within our navel assets.
all spelling mistakes are "df" alcohol induced

Thanks for clarifying it. However, the SHAR did prove very useful over Bosnia.
At the time of Kosovo I wondered why we sent a CVS when the Harrier GR9s were happily operating from Italy.

If I remember right there was an F3 pilot transfered over to the dark side for the reason of flying single seat fighter........wonder if he is now going to transfer back??
I have also heard that he is rather bitter towards the RAF and the F3 force in general.
Never mind a transfer ratio of 100 - 1 suits the RAF just fine

TH,
Is it any surprise that the numbers of people wanting to transfer to the dark blue is so small? You do not need to have the brains of a pinger pilot to work it out, or have you missed all the press coverage for the last nine months? The SHAR is to be scrapped, the alternative is angry pineapples - or flying the things they trained you for five years how to shoot down. Wouldn't you want to transfer to a service that gives you all your entitlements, only flies from strips near a decent hotel and gets to go to the States every five minutes on "training" deployments. It's the closest thing to being a civvie in the military, crew duty hours, health and safety, COSSH etc.
Maybe someone should start up a new topic........... perhaps Navy versus RAF, why we hate each other. Naah, that would be really childish.

Thanks Colonel K, for resolving a lingering doubt I'd had in my mind. I'd wondered whether you were a completely infantile, stupid, and humourless tw@t and now I know the answer.
Though seamen are easy to spot, with their silly hats and weird neck things and very silly trousers, how do you tell the difference between a Navy officer and a member of the Corps of Commissionaires? I know RN officers always have dirty shoes, but those dark blue uniforms and white hats make it damned difficult to tell the difference otherwise... And telling the difference between them an Buzz or Go pilots, or the purser on a cross-channel ferry is even more difficult.

Silly Hats ?
What about the Chip Shop worker hats RAF Officers have. Suppose it gets them in the right frame of mind for their subsequent careers - "would you like fries with that ?"
Uniforms ?
What about the dated Thunderbirds style attire the RAF have?
Qn. Whats the difference between the RAF and the Thunderbirds?
Ans. One outfit oozes courage, professionalism and moral fibre and the other wears silly hats.
(I'll let you make your own mind up which one is which) (or should we have a poll - I don't think so!)
It really is quite amusing reading all the prejudices both sides have, especially from those who aren't actually serving or never have. My words above are all in jest (obviously). I personally think all military aviators in our great nation do a difficult job with limted assets and resources and produce the goods, time after time. We should support each other verbally - you just don't know when you may have to in anger!

Actually, I'm sure that most of us lateral perambulatory crustaceans have a high regard for Pusser's finest!
I do - beacuse they gave me my first ever military jet trip many years ago in the coal-hole of a Vixen. At the age of 15!!

And another thing
Dun & Oggin A,
Just for the chance to go off on another tangent and make this thread even more inconsequential, neither Seaman Stains or Roger the Cabin boy appeared in Cap'n P nor did Master Bates. All lies I tell you. It was Tom the Cabin Boy, Mr Mate, Cap'n P and Mr Stripey Jumper (probably)
Yours childishly

I seem to recall that Cap'n P's author eventually became so fed up of the Seaman Staines (et al) tales that he sued the next publication that repeated them, and won a tidy sum...
