The Bataan amphibious group, consisting of the USS Bataan (LHD-5), USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit have been ordered to deploy to the Med from the Red Sea and will shortly transit through the Suez Canal and link-up with the remainder of the group, the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19), and, presumably, with the CTG already in the area.

First IAF strikes against Hezbullah in Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Force has announced that due to escalating tension with Hezbollah on the border with Lebanon, the Israeli Air Force tonight has bombed a Hezbollah arms and munitions depot for the first time during this war as a warning to the terror organization.

Other news......this latest news added to a previous report that IDF forces have killed 55 Senior Hamas officials known to have had a role in terrorist attacks would suggest the IDF is using ground based intelligence and air strikes to target Hamas Terrorists as they develop intelligence re their whereabouts.
The Israeli Defense Forces and Israeli Securities Authority said troops killed Nasim Abu Ajina, the Hamas commander who they say directed the part of the Oct. 7 massacre in the Kibbutz Erez and Moshav Netiv HaAsara.

"Yesterday, based on IDF and ISA intelligence, IDF fighter jets struck the Commander of the Beit Lahia Battalion of Hamas' Northern Brigade, Nasim Abu Ajina, who directed the massacre on October 7th in the Kibbutz Erez and Moshav Netiv HaAsara," the IDF and ISA said in a joint statement. "In the past, Abu Ajina commanded Hamas' Aerial Array, and took part in the development of the UAVs and paragliders of the terrorist organization."

"His elimination significantly harms the efforts of the Hamas terrorist organization to disrupt the IDF's ground activities," the statement added.

Air raid sirens a couple of hours ago in Eilat, it seems that Israel intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen using an Aroow interceptor missile.

The fear has been that Iran would use the Houthi as their surrogate to join the war.

This is an interesting video of an interview with a Hamas Senior Official who states it is the United Nations responsibility to build Air Raid Shelters for the people of Gaza as 75% of them are Refugees.

Hamas is the ruling authority for Gaza.....not the United Nations.

As I do not speak Arabic I have to trust the translation is accurate.

The Israeli military said it had deployed missile boats in the Red Sea on Wednesday as reinforcements, a day after the Iran-aligned Houthi movement said it had launched missile and drone attacks on Israel.

The Houthi movement said on Tuesday they had launched three drone and missile attacks towards Israel since the start of the Hamas-Israel war on Oct. 7. It vowed there would be more such attacks to come "to help the Palestinians to victory".

Can you explain what you mean by that? Russia is not in NATO.

for ORAC:
The Ayatollah's have, since the revolution in 1979, been very clear on their opposition to "the Zionist entity."
Their using Houthi proxies to launch missiles at Israel from Yemen should surprise nobody. (Last week I think a USN ship in the Red Sea knocked a few down as well. Not sure if we discussed that in this thread or somewhere else... aha, here it is Gaza Air War).
The "Air War in Gaza" seems to have expanded with this move by Iran.

Don't read too much into it Lonewolf. It's a form of RAF slang that might loosely be translated as 'situation normal'.

A tidbit from a few other news sources ...
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that it had intercepted missiles and drones launched from the “Red Sea area” and targeting the southern Israeli resort town of Eilat. The Iranian-backed Houthi militant group in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attacks and warned of more strikes to come if “Israeli aggression” against Hamas continues, a Houthi military spokesperson said.

According to the IDF, Israel’s Arrow aerial defense system shot down a surface-to-surface long-range ballistic missile aimed at Israeli territory, and Israeli fighter jets intercepted two cruise missiles and multiple drones. This was the first time that Israel used this anti-ballistic missile system since war broke out on Oct. 7.

I'll offer a small wager that they will use it again.

Lone,

I shall wager the IDF shall have to do so again and I shall also wager that you shall see other Nation's military forces shooting down hostile weapons headed towards Israel, Jordan, Saudi, and maritime targets as well.

I wonder how we would react if Iran decided it was in its interests to park its Navy off the coast of Israel in international waters too? Not I think it likely but if the backers of one side, why not the other?

I take the point but TBH they don't need to - their proxies in the Lebanon & Syria are a lot cheaper and probably more effective.

Suspect they'll keep the lid on things in the north as they don't want the Israeli AF deciding to take out their nuclear programme again. Far happier to see them beating s*** out of Gaza. The Iranians aren't as close to Hamas cp other organisations they also fund
