Just starting on Sky Nat Geo The New Airforce One
A look at the overhaul of the two Presidential planes and the technology that transforms them into secure command centres. Nat Geo 129 or plus 229
while on Sky History 123 or plus 1 at 9pm the recovery of the B17 Swamp Ghost.

If you haven't seen it, they take two new undelivered 747 800's that were ordered by a Russian airline out of storage to convert to the new Air Force One's.
One thing that struck me was the crew saying they were glad to be going over to a modern digital cockpit over steam driven instrumentation then showing the guy gutting the new aircrafts cockpit to militarise it by fitting completely new hardened wiring and displays to protect it from an EMP pulse in case of a nuclear war, A lot of the steam driven instruments that they were glad to change over from in the earlier aircraft wouldn't have been affected by an EMP. So much for technology advancement.

They also have another one on shipwrecks that is new, the first was on the German Fleet at Scapa flow and included some footage of the scrappie raising some off the seabed.
The second one is on the USS carrier Corsica... the island and explores some of the aircraft wrecks around the coast, that's on the tenth

Interesting, as that generation of aircraft will have been certified for HIRF under Part-25: https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-id...e14.1.25_11317
The current 747-200 based AF One aircraft are a real hodge-podge of analog and digital - including a lot of A2D and D2A converters that are rather susceptible to HIRF/EMI.
why? 9-11 proved its endurance you need not speed

Which is odd when they binned inflight refuelling on the new 747, though it does have an 8k range in standard SLF role.
Are you sure about that? It was in on the briefing material that I saw before I retired. Granted, that was over 4 years ago - but most of the development costs for in-flight refueling for a 747 are already done so it wouldn't save much money.
