Maximum Automatic penalties for people who damage Military Memorials
This is a good petition to support. I believe some of you may wish to consider adding your name. I received this from a trusted former RAF officer.
"Calling on all Members of the Armed Forces Community - Following our latest round of open terrorism on the Streets of the United Kingdom, and the damaging and desecration of our War Memorials, we would like to see automatic, full sentencing carried out to people that are filmed, bragging about, or inciting others to get involved in the damage in any form. In 2019 this was debated now lets see some proper protection put in place for our Military Heritage, remembering the people that made the ultimate sacrifice to the United Kingdom, and to understand that their lives mattered".

Good luck. They are criminally defacing plaques which simply stated a civil war fight occurred on this location, let alone actual memorials of confederate individuals being demolished. Idiots. At least Seattle now has it's own lawless principality inside it's territory. Time to tune up.
No-one ever listens or takes notices of petitions - there was a whole "yes Minister" about it years back
Similar one in the Daily Fail, however, look closely at paragraph 2 and all is not as it seems. Nothing at all about stopping the scrotes in the first place. All memorials, statues or any other public ediface should be protected from demonstrators and rioters as a matter of course.
Is this the same awesome system that let BLM rioters stand on the Cenotaph and try to burn the flag, with no police trying to stop them as they were too busy ‘taking the knee’?

Signing a petition demanding the death penalty for those that vandalise war memorials and life sentences for their entire family in a labour camp wont make the police act... you are confusing law with policy or individual acts.

In these circumstances I think their is more benefit to educating those who vandalise war memorials. Give them 500 hrs community service, all of which has to be with veterans organisations and Headley Court....
Most are misguided kids who have little concept of the real world. They live in a bubble that is an echo chamber of tree-hugging and all military personnel being baby killers and violent killers intent on having as high a body count as possible. They have likely never, ever, had a conversation with a veteran.
Sending them to jail 'proves' the system is hell bent on perpetuating the rape, pillaging and baby killing!
Dialogue and understanding is how these problems are fixed.
Just my opinion.
No-one is going to go to prison for 10 years for defacing a war memorial - its just political grandstanding - there 's plenty of laws to cover the situation right now - the issue is the police can't enforce them all

For calibration of what constitutes a serious crime and the corresponding MAXIMUM sentence, most will actually serve 50-75% of that time before release.
Some spray paint on a memorial fades into insignificance.... It is not something I condone in any way, but let's take a reality check on the seriousness of it and the fact it is actually completely victimless.
Don't get me wrong, if my children did it, then standby, their life would be in for some BIIIIG changes! But spending 10 yrs in jail is dumb for what it is.

I am certainly with heights good on this one. Ten years is frankly ludicrous, does anyone seriously believe a judge was going to hand down a sentence of that length for this type of offence. I like the idea of the perpetrators being introduced to some of the patients at Headley Court. I think the sentence should also include many hours of graffiti scrubbing.
(By the way heights good, shouldn't that be "height's good"? )

No, it most definitely should not be 'height's'.
It drives those with little in their life but grammar, 'the good old days' and moaning about pretty much everything, nuts...
I have contemplated changing it, but I can't bring myself to do it as the glee I feel when thinking of the spitting rage it gives some is just too much to miss out on :-)
Meanwhile the world keep turning :-)

Ah well it brought a little levity to an otherwise serious thread
In a similar vein, I misread hg's table of maximum sentences and was wondering for a minute or two why you could get two years for having intercourse with a detective!

Surely that means it would be mandatory?
