The European FREMM multipurpose frigate as been selected as the design for the U.S. Navy’s Guided Missile Frigate (FFG(X)) program.

Strange image to use as the images online all show it with a stealthy type enclosed aerial array...

Agree with M the M... launched by the French and Italians, sunk by the American legal system..

A lot depends on the commercial arrangement to build them - they'll all be built in the USA - Wisconsin I believe and the FREMM design has been on the USN list for at least 3 years. There were 5 designs in the frame but only two US designs - one of those was based on an LCS (which don't seem to be flavour of the month) and the other on the Legend cutter - which is quite an old design I think.

The real money will be made fitting all those US -only bits of kit . It'll be interesting to see what the final cost is if they go-ahead with the FREMM

Selects the design but little or no chance of any European content, voters have to be pleased.
