The Germans and most of the rest of mainland Europe will never amount to anything other than a token force..
why not cut to the chase ., let,all the NATO slackers just pay a NATO tax to the USA and the UK and let us deal with defence.. they can than not bother about any of it.
its highly inefficient at their level..
just get the professionals in ..

The problem with that approach is the lack of value for money.
Grotesquely overpriced hardware and marginally capable troops are not attractive purchases, even if labeled 'professional'.

Were making the rounds in the US from about 1991 to about 1999... even though we sent a few tens of thousands into the Balkans when you Europeans could not handle that small problem in your back yard.

The Japanese still put up with the Army of Occupation, as it were, and it seems that with China being a problem for them, regional security wise, they might be smart to do so.

Why do the Germans still need to accept that Army of Occupation that began it residency in 1945?
Yes, I am fully aware of how and what and why NATO works, but in the year 2019, what political purpose is fulfilled, from the German side?
Why have they not done as President Aquino did, in 1991, in the Philippines, and invited the Americans to leave?
I know what part of the answer was in 1999, but it being 20 years later, what's the answer now?
