THEN THERE WAS ONE.......

Surprised that the recent passing of Fred Sutherland, Canadian front gunner on Les Knight's N-Nuts (the aircraft that breached the Eder Dam) on Operation Chastise hasn't been acknowledged on this site. Fred was one of the last 2 surviving Dambusters and his passing leaves our own Johnny Johnson as the sole remaining member of the esteemed 133 heroes that participated in that dramatic action. Clear skies Fred, rest easy - your duty is done.

Read in his obit that when he returned to Canada to go onto training duties later in the war, far from being given a hero's welcome he was given a bollocking by an MP on a railway station for not having his greatcoat buttoned up correctly!
