The terror attack occurred over 24 hours ago, it was on Wednesday.

Driver dead after crashing at US Air Force base

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — Officials say a driver breached the main gate at an Air Force base in Northern California, then crashed and died.
Travis Air Force Base officials say in a statement that the driver “gained unauthorized access” to the main gate around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
They say no one else was injured. Officials would not say how the person died or provided any other information.
They say the investigation is ongoing.

Man who crashed SUV at Travis AFB checkpoint identified; five propane tanks inside vehicle
A black SUV crashed inside the checkpoint of Travis Air Force Base on Mar. 22 and the driver, who was killed in the crash, has been identified. The authorities identified the person as 51-year-old Hafiz Kazi. Five propane tanks, three phones and several lighters were later found inside the vehicle, which caught fire.
The FBI is still trying to determine the motive.....

Chopper: The RAFLO and team that was originally at McLellan for Westabout routings moved down interstate 80 to Travis at, I think, some time in the 1980s. No idea what or who may be there now - but we also, albeit briefly, had a Nav post there in the early to mid 70s.
The story goes that there used to be a RAFLO Hawaii...

One of our V-force navs had been 'RAFLO South Pacific' in earlier times and thoroughly enjoyed chugging around various little spots in one of HM's Dakotas with long range tanks.

There was one in the States in the 70's simply there to sign purchase orders for load nets, when needed which was infrequently if I remember correctly.
There used to be an RAF operated Piper Chieftain in Bermuda doing drug patrols, single RAF pilot and Eng accompanied posting. Friend at time got the Eng posting.
The guy trying to storm the place wasn't exactly the cleverest in the pack, attack a military base and then attack the defended main gate.

The RAFLO and DRAFLO Travis moved to Nellis circa 2005.
There was also an O-5 Exchange Officer post with the numbered Air Force (15th?) until late 2004.
Now only a KC-10 Exchange Pilot.

No RAF at Travis now, as I was the last! RAFLO moved (excuse the pun) to McCarran (Vegas) about 10 years ago, and the exchange programme was wound up when I left in 2013. The C-17 crew training that used to be there went to Charleston/Altus in 2011/12.
Well that's a pity. There was a Pilot post at Travis from at least the early 60s, if not earlier, plus a Nav post for the first half of the 70s. I imagine that the USAF Exchange programme must now be barely a shadow of its early 70s existence when there were about 120 of us out there. Indeed, at that time I recall the then Head of BDLS saying that the RAF presence (Exchange, projects, etc) in the USA was second only to RAFG in size as regards ex-UK numbers. Different days.
