There are jobs for ex RAF helicopter pilots at a number of different locations.

Timed out, like many others here!
And from what I’ve read, I wouldn’t want to play in today’s RAF anyway. But I’m sure I was oroductive for 3 years out of my 29

Ironic isn't it, make people redundant and then have to go looking for people that will probably need a chairlift to get back into the cockpit to replace them..
"Mildly" Eccentric Stardriver
It's a cyclic thing, because people never learn from the past. There was a big voluntary redundancy programme in the mid-70s, and a lot of pilots left for greener pastures. Me included. Within a very short time they were trying to entice people back, and I believe that was when the spec aircrew thing started.
If you read the information at the link, this is not just aimed at pilots - and there are people out there who have found the grass is not greener after all. I think the point is that, for those who want to, rejoining (and transfers between Services) has been made a lot easier than it was, with pragmatism now much in evidence. The old days of "I know you have been flying the same type with X but you haven't been flying it in the RAF so you will need to do the long course again..." have gone. Is that not a good thing for rejoiners and for we, the taxpayers?

Bring back the cold war, RAFG and all. Although at 67, with angina and arthrytis in my legs, I doubt if I would make the grade. The beer at 95 pfs would be nice. (That was five pints to the £1 to the young 'uns.)
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
Herod, IIRC SA came in 69, the redundancy was about 72. For aircrew it was aimed at some types and higher ranks. Remember one flt Lt finally going places promoted straight in to the redundancy bracket. Oh cruel fate.
Then the wholesale slaughter of Ascot crews.

I remember the recruiting poster in the late 40's stating "Ginger's back, join him in the RAF." I did, and 8 years later the narrative had changed; too many aircrew and many were cast adrift, including many of the ex-wartime aircrew still flying. 'Due to the contraction of the service.'
Rejoin today and be in time for the next round of Defence cut redundancy payments

If it's a similar deal to the one I was offered a few years ago, the first thing they will do is "abate" your service pension. Which in my case, would have meant a significant pay cut.
Or, the "offer" of reserve service (High Readiness Reserve), where the RAF expected me to commute from the Far East at my own expense every month (£1200 round trip) but would kindly pay me a motor mileage allowance from Heathrow to Odiham..... for a daily rate of pay of about £45 a day, I think it was. Didn't take long making a decision on that one. In any case, there was no way they could have persuaded my employer to allow me time off to do it.
Anyway, I'm also age barred now, thank goodness and I'd far rather tinker about in the garage on my days off.

Too many negatives and the pension abatement is a big obstacle. I’ve been out for nearly 6 yrs and the military has changed massively. I can see more civilian contractor jobs in the future for the aircrew, that might be one way of attracting the experienced back to the fold.
Sadly not, I know a very experienced rejoiner who is waiting nearly 8 months to do the long course, on the same type!😞
