Anyone who believes anything sourced by the Russian state or their media is gullible in the extreme.
And you always believe what the BBC News says?

Yep, most of the time. Especially when they are pulling apart the latest government spin.

Funny, don't seem to see much of that in Russia anymore.

Long gone are the days when the BBC News reported the news. Nowadays they selectively choose what to show, how to show it and much is tainted by their own spin. They "pull apart Government spin" if it suits them, they also push a pet subject if they feel it is not being given the attention it 'deserves'. The sources of information they have been using for the Syrian conflict should make people very wary of their coverage, and they have spent no energy investigating what has really been going on.

As bad as Russian State media? Maybe not, but they produce a filtered, sanitized and, sometimes inaccurate output all the same.

You will need a tinfoil hat if you think there is a credible correlation between the UK Gov/BBC and Russian Gov/State media.

I didn't say that. You want me to have said it, but I didn't.

SK-N, indeed, we know when we buy a newspaper what it's editorial view is. If we want a balanced or counter view we can buy a second paper.

At least with Fox and BBC we know what we'll get.

The Guardian and The Daily Mail are better examples of huge political bias. Never letting the truth get in the way of a good story.

SkyHawk-N,

I think you misunderstand how the BBC works. The Corporation has plenty of faults, but a political agenda or 'spin' as you put it isn't one of them.

"Their" own spin. In many respects, there is no "they". BBC programmes (including news and current affairs) are made by numerous units, many of them not even a part of the BBC. The Board doesn't actually preview, direct or censor every minute of every programme (quite a few are still live) and producers work to their own strengths.

If the BBC has an agenda, it is to maintain its impartiality and to be independent of government influence. To the frustration of many politicians, it is not easily influenced. To compare it to state owned and state controlled media is ridiculous and makes me wonder about your motives here.

ORAC

There is a big difference between an organisation having bias towards a political party or any other form of opinion, and an organisation having a bias towards truth.

The BBC is required only to be even handed towards events which have points of view.

This is very different from situations where facts are involved.

They are not supposed to give equal weighting to creationists, conspiracy theorists, climate warming deniers, holocaust deniers etc.

Being even handed is not the same as giving morons a pulpit to spout from.

personally I think the BBC is far too sympathetic to the idiots.

My motives?, as this is an internet forum my motive is to express my opinion.

You say that the BBC is made up of various producers and departments, and so it is not possible to label the BBC as a whole, but the BBC News is the BBC's official news outlet and as a result represents their organization as a whole to the World. It's like saying you can't criticize Peugeot cars as their components are sourced from many different departments and other companies. Peugeot sell their cars and are responsible for their quality. The BBC is responsible for the news they broadcast.

I frequently visit many news provider outlets and it is obvious to me and others how the BBC News selects and spins it's main stories. You may not agree with my opinion and that is fine by me.

This is both true and beside the point.

There is a big difference between the BBCs responsibility for its content and the idea that the BBC puts out content with a consistent political/ethical viewpoint.

It generally doesn't, though radio 4 tends to be too lefty for me.

Other programs tend to be more right.

Your mention of Peugeot is particularly apposite.
Peugeot makes cars.

It is, as you say, responsible for the cars made.

This does not mean Peugeot maintains a particular standard.

Some Peugeots are utter [email protected] (My wife had an awful 309!)
Some Peugeots are truly fantastic - 205 T16

I ceased to trust BBC many years ago, best thing about www is that i can look at different sources.

RT is paid for by Russian Govt and I find Journalists there do not attempt to hide behind that and are open about it.
I have found BBC Foreign service never ever mentioned they were funded by Foreign Office and they will keep quiet about additional money Govt has given them recently.

BBC balanced?

Only a UK conservative man could say that. From our point of view in Africa the BBC outranks SKY in bias. If you want to know what is going on, try Aljazeera or RT. They are nominally even handed...

Putin vows to 'immediately destroy' any threaten to Russian forces

Vladimir Putin has vowed Russia’s military will “immediately destroy” any target threatening them in Syria, representing a strong warning to Turkey following its shooting down of a Russian warplane at the Syrian border.

Speaking at a meeting with senior commanders in Moscow, Putin said the military should respond with full force to any “further provocations”, adding that additional aircraft and air defence weapons have been sent to the Russian base near Latakia.

“I order you to act in the toughest way,” the Russian president said. “Any targets threatening the Russian groups of forces or our land infrastructure should be immediately destroyed.”..........
